THE END OF THE WORLD came a lot more quickly than many had thought. One second, there was busy life in the corners of the world that seemed never ending, technology advancing and more opportunities opening for anyone to reach out and grab.
But when the world ended, it's skeleton was left bare for the select few that survived the global outbreak. And those survivors never stood a chance at the great and merciless number of the dead that plagued the land, casting a deadly infection over the plains of the earth.
Freya hadn't been 29 for long before her plans for the future failed. It was around the middle of August in the year 2010 when society collapsed. Life had changed and death had risen. Something like a virus had plagued Earth and it was killing people quick. And when they infected with the sickness, they rose with the dead and plagued the land further.
In short, Freya's holiday plans to go to France in December were ruined. Instead, Freya rushed down to Atlanta to find her parents, but all she found was ruin. The home they stayed in was burning to ashes, and the dead were walking around her. If not for the two men driving a church van nearby, she wouldn't have made it out.Glenn and Theodore were her saviors that day, and without them, she would not have even live a few more seconds in that cul de sac. Soon, Freya, Glenn and T-dog found themselves amongst another group of survivors on the outskirts of Atlanta City. There was a cop among this group, and he suggested that sticking together was a good way to survivor and nobody seemed to argue with him.
Days went by and turned themselves into weeks. Roughly 7 to 8 weeks later, the camp had a system. Everyone had chores to do, and everyone had to get them done. Freya wasn't sure how the end of the world meant women go back to mediaeval jobs, but she and the rest of the women in the group did the cooking and laundry and all the other boring things. Meanwhile, the men hunted and made sure things were safe.
Freya didn't like the idea of women doing domestic shit whilst the men did 'man stuff'. And that was how she found herself in the middle of the woods, chopping up some firewood right in the early morning.
Chopping firewood was Ed's job. And Ed hadn't done his job since he was assigned to it. Usually one of the Dixon brother's did it, or Shane (the cop) found some time in his day to do it. But Freya had gotten up early this morning, so she found no harm in putting in a little extra work for the people she was living with. And she was sure Ed would just say he did it anyway because that was the kind of man Ed was.
Ed had a wife and a daughter with him in the camp. Carol was his wife, and she was a gorgeous short haired woman with a kind smile but she was very much in Ed's shadow. And his daughter, Sophia was a joy to be around. She was a young 12 year old girl with short brown hair and brown eyes. And what Freya noticed was how she was full of energy everywhere but when she was around her father. And Freya didn't like how much it reminded her of home so she always kept an eye on the two.
