Meanwhile, out in the metropolitan streets of Tokyo, where tens to hundreds of cars were packed in. Just like the rain continued to wash down the city, it also washed down any motivation of everyone stuck in the traffic. Among the unlucky drivers was Kaya. With a lemon candy in her mouth, she managed to distract herself from complete brain shutdown from a simple game of betting, which droplets on her windshield would fall the fastest. But, of course, such a thing could only entertain her for so long.
"Goodness, we're never gonna get anywhere with this..." She groaned, her head slumped to the steering wheel, barely hitting the horn that would have undoubtedly fueled the anger of the others around her. The day was already long enough as it was, even without dealing with devils. In fact, a little nap would have been lovely to her right now, but after the disaster with her rookie, the thought of one might just be roaming amidst the rain out there made her anxious. Her frustration only grew when she peeked through the strands of her hair.
Her supposed Buddy, Kaneko, sat next to her, but his deafening silence and his unbothered face on the window told her just how insignificant their presence was to each other. He might as well not be there in the first place, and her boredom and frustration would remain the same, not ever so slightly less.
Kaya's eyes furrowed, her mouth ready to give up a heavy sigh, but her gaze moved downwards to Kaneko's lap. His hand lay restlessly there, his finger tapping erratically without proper rhythm. Kaya's face softened slightly, relieved that despite his silence, he was not the unemotional rock her frustrated head kept telling her. She took a deep breath and stretched her arms, mentally preparing herself for the conversation.
"Still mad over it, Ko-chan?" She asked softly.
Her question remained unanswered, but Kaneko's finger kept on tapping.
"It doesn't hurt to talk to me about it, Ko-chan..." She pressed on. "About... her... or him... that is..."
Kaneko slowly turned his head towards her, breaking his silence with a disgruntled sigh. "I'm. Not. Mad. About anything."
"Really? Then why did I catch you beating the shit out of that boxing dummy when I caught up to you?"
"Oh, so practicing my punches on a dummy is wrong now?" Kaneko quickly raised his voice, and the hand on his lap slowly formed into a fist. " Besides, I was killing time while the blacksmith fixed my Katana. Was that too hard to understand?"
"You know that's not what I mean, Ko-chan. You can't just storm off from a conversation and disappear into God knows where. Then, you just had to make a scene in the weaponry with your beatings. Everyone was staring at you! Do you know how much trouble that caused me?"
"If you are uncomfortable with that, then quit being my Buddy. I want a partner to help me fight, not a babysitter," Kaneko once again raised his voice even higher, crossing his arms.
"Do you know why I'm acting like a babysitter?! It's because you won't stop acting like a kid, Kaneko." Kaya asserted, pointing her finger at the young man's face. "If you want me to respect you, then at least treat me with some respect, young man."
