"You can't be serious."

I snicker as I place the winning Ace of Spades card onto the deck, claiming the round as my victory. Nova folds her arms, flicking what was left of her cards onto the table in disregard.

"You cheated," she huffs.

"That was what, best of three? And how many did I win? Three," I grin.

"And what was I saying last week about how you used to be arrogant? It still stands," she chuckles.

It's been twenty-one days since she killed Nicholas, and she's the happiest I've ever seen her. There's a constant glow to her skin, her iris' are more vibrant and awake; not anything like how exhausted she looked a few weeks ago.

Still beautiful, regardless.

The first two days were a little rough. She struggled in coming to terms with reality, kept waking up in the night thinking that he was alive. She says she has visions of his mangled form consistently, I think I was lucky enough to not look over the edge of the roof that day.

Luckily, I've always been with her. I'll always be there to catch her whenever she falls. I'll always do whatever I can to protect her.

Not that she particularly needs it, and she'd probably give me the usual intense glare if I said that out loud. On the contrary, I can name a fair few times she would've died if I wasn't around.

North somehow decided to let me stay in the Hawks for now, until she leaves for her year off in six days time. He's letting me stick around for 'moral support'.

"So, I was thinking about my year off," she hums, leaning back into her seat.

"What about it?"

"Maybe I shouldn't take it," she shrugs.

"What do you mean, 'you shouldn't take it'? Nov, you deserve that year out," I sigh.

"I know. It's just that- I can't speak with my Dad about anything. He doesn't know that Mom actually fucking died, for one. If he brings up Nicholas, I don't know how I'll react."

"All you need to say is that you haven't heard anything about him, okay?" I scoot closer to push some hair behind her ear, she nods.

"It's also, just-" she hesitates.

"-just what?"

"I'm just really going to miss you," she sighs. I have a feeling that isn't what she wanted to say, but I won't pry.

"Who wouldn't?" I grin, she gives me the small slap on the arm that I love.

It does make my heart ache. I'm going to miss her so damn much, I'd give anything to take the year off with her.
