Anya's POV
It's been quite a few years now but it still feels like my babies are 8 years old celebrating Christmas with pure joy evident on their faces. Leo and Elizabeth both went to college. Leo became an artist. He has amazing drawings. I'm so proud of him for finding a way to do what he loves. He doesn't let people bring him down anymore. He used to when he was still in grade school. He looks so much like Damian. I could not be prouder of him than I am now. He has made a life for himself and it's wonderful. Now Elizabeth , she became a doctor. I didn't understand it but she didn't want to stay home and take care of the household like I did. She wanted to do something with her life and that's okay. It's what makes her happy and I'm proud of her. I should have guessed that she was going to be a doctor of some sort since in her teen years she started to find facts about the human body fascinating and she would tell me all that she knew about it. She requested anatomy books and other kinds of doctor books for her and Leo's birthday. Leo usually requested art supplies for their birthday. She made a name for herself in the medical industry. She's become one of the best doctors our town has seen.
Sometimes I miss when my kids were still so little. I miss when I could hear the sound of laughter and running feet from down the hall. I miss being able to tell them to not run because of my fear of them falling down the stairs. They're still my babies but I miss when they were little. Times were so much simpler then. They were such different people then. I loved seeing them grow into their own people. It has been amazing to see. Leo used to be so attached to his sister when they were kids. Then when he hit 5th grade he started getting out of his comfort zone.
"Hey Darling" Damian says wrapping his arms around me and kissing my head. I lean into his touch. "What are you thinking about?" He asks concern written on his face. I smile at him. "Our kids and how they've grown since they were kids" I say. "Well they did get older" he says. I laugh at his misunderstanding of my statement. "No like they grew. They matured and got out of their comfort zones to explore the world around them" I stage. He looks at me for a moment and then smiles. "Yeah. It was pretty cool to see. I wonder if that happened to us and we just never noticed it" he says. "I bet it did. I should ask mama about it" I say. He nods and smiles.
Damian's POV
It's been almost 30 years since we got married. It feels like it was just yesterday that we slid those rings onto each others fingers. She was so beautiful on our wedding day. She is always beautiful. Even when we turn 80 and have grandkids she'll still be as beautiful as the day I met her. It happens to be our anniversary tomorrow. She always loves celebrating it. She loves it so much because in her words she married the love of her life. So I always make sure to make it special for her. The one thing that has stayed consistent through the years is that every year on our anniversary I give her a letter. The next day
"Good morning Darling" I say giving her a small kiss. She smiles. "Good morning my love" she replies. I smile down at her. It still feels weird to not have our kids coming and waking us up for breakfast. I make breakfast for us and walk into the room as Anya finishes getting dressed. She's wearing a normal t-shirt and a magenta flowy skirt. She turns around as I walk in and smiles at me. I feel as if I have fallen in love with her all over again. I set the tray down on the bed and wrap my arms around her waist and lean my head on her shoulder. She laughs. I want to hear that beautiful sound for the rest of my life.
She turns around in my arms and hugs me. I hug her back. She sighs contentedly. I smile. "Would you like some breakfast beautiful?" I ask. She still blushes the same shade of red as when I first called her that. She smiles up at me with the blush on her cheeks and nods. We eat breakfast. The day goes on and I take her to all her favorite places including the beautiful hill that I first took her to. She remembers it too. We spend the day together like we always do. We finally end up at a cafe. She loved cafes because they have all kinds of sweet treats and drinks. She still loves peanuts but she also likes trying new things so I make sure to order something she hasn't tried before. She smiles at me.
After we eat, I drink my tea and she stares at me with so much affection. Sometimes I still look back and wonder how I got lucky enough to have her. "Here Darling your yearly anniversary letter" I say. She looks excited as she carefully takes it from my extended hand. I watch as she carefully opens the envelope. She starts to read it. She's so excited. She reads it. After a minute or two she looks up. I love when she looks at me like that. She has so much love and affection in her eyes. She always does and I love her for it. The letter read:
"My dearest Anya,
We have spent nearly thirty years together and I could not be more grateful for your presence and companionship. You are so beautiful. You always are and you always have been in my eyes. I'm so blessed to have had the opportunity to meet you and make you my wife. I will love you even when we're 80. You will always be as beautiful as the day I met you. I love you so so much. You have been the greatest gift I have ever received. Thank you for staying with someone like me. Even with all my problems and trials. You are wonderful and I'm glad I got to have a family with someone as amazing as you.
