The walk back to the Hufflepuff common room felt never-ending. Adrenaline was pumping through my body, forcing a wide smile to appear on my face.
Did I really just share a drink with Professor Sharp, or did I just make that up?
I kept rubbing his handkerchief between my fingers as it sat in my pocket. It was the only thing that confirmed the reality of the situation.
The last few hours felt like a fever dream. Sharp's presence was so much softer and kinder than usual; I wonder if any other students had the opportunity to witness it? I let out an embarrassed sigh as I continued walking through the castle.
Why on earth did I try to make a move on him?!
I shook away the embarrassment as it crawled up my spine and made my way down the stairs towards the common room. I'd been contemplating whether to share the experience with Poppy, but landed on keeping it to myself for now.
The common room was quiet as I entered. Some students were sitting around reading, others were playing board games together, whereas the majority had already taken themselves to bed. I walked up the stairs and opened the door to the room Poppy and I shared, but was greeted by an abrupt squeal and the chaotic flailing of multiple blankets. As my eyes adjusted, I realised what I'd just walked in on...
"Oh my god! Poppy, Garreth I'm so sorry!" I cried out as I hid behind the door and shut it too.
"You're ok Juliet, we're covered" She giggled.
I entered the room hesitantly and jokingly covered my eyes. "Are you sure it's safe?" I questioned, stifling a laugh.
"Yes Juliet" Poppy laughed back. I removed my hands from my eyes to see the both of them lying closely next to each other in her bed with the blanket pulled up high. Garreth's face was almost as red as his hair and he amusingly struggled to look me in the eyes.
I walked over to my wardrobe and placed my bag on the floor leaning against it. "I'm just grabbing a few bits and I'll leave you to it, I promise."
My clothes were still torn to pieces beneath my cloak and I tried desperately to hide them from Poppy's view, as I started gathering some fresh clothes to change into.
"I'm sorry Juliet, I just assumed you'd be out all night since I hadn't seen you since this morning."
"Yeah, I can leave Juliet." Garreth offered as he sat up in the bed.
"It's fine, I'd hate to come between you two love birds" I teased as I stood up, stuffing a handful of clean clothes into my bag. "You've got the room to yourselves for the night, I promise I won't come back."
"Are you sure? Where are you going to sleep?" Poppy questioned me, sounding a little concerned.
"Poppy, stop worrying," I interjected. "Have fun and don't do anything I wouldn't do." I watched Garreth squirm as his face somehow turned even redder, and I started chuckling as I left, closing the door behind me.
I made my way towards the Undercroft, looking forward to being able to put my feet up and relax for the night. The Undercroft was thankfully empty. I lit the candles that were carelessly scattered about the place and quickly changed into my fresh clothes, tying my hair into a messy bun before collapsing on the sofa in the middle of the room.
I took my phone out of my bag and turned it on. Back in London, everyone was addicted to their phones and finding someone who didn't have one was almost impossible, but Hogwarts was the complete opposite. I hadn't seen a single student use or even mention a mobile phone, which quickly made me worry that they were considered a forbidden item.
