Chapter 14: The Winner Is...

Later in the evening, at Main Street.

Vargas announces, "The winner of this year's Beanfest game is... The monster team!"

Everyone in the Monster Team cheers, "YEEEAAAH!"

Then Vargas says, "I hereby present the monster team's four MVPs, Ashengrotto, Howl, Jasper, and Tanzanite, with their hard-earned prize."

"Thank you, Coach," Azul says.

"Thanks," The twins reply.

Jack scoffs, "Hmph..."

Meanwhile...

"MRAAAGH! This stinks!" Grim says in defeat.

"That last big lunge for the harp fell short by about a fingernail," Cater says.

Serai lowers her head, "Sorry..."

"No, you carried out your role with aplomb, Sereia," Jade says.

"For sure," Cater says, "The one thing we weren't counting on was Jack's insane reflexes. How is that even fair?"

Flashback:

Sereia runs as fast as she can to get the harp. And in a disparate attempt a powerful jump towards the harp. Jack also dives towards Sereia with full force.

And at the moment, Jack mananges to pounce at Sereia, and grabs her around his arms. Jack soon lands on his feet and holds the little doll in his arms, but he skids and his back slams against the wall.

"Jack!" Jasper cries out.

"Sereia!" Briar calls out in worry.

Jade and Azul soon arrive to see what happened. Everyone in the coliseum looks at Jack who is able to stand, and reveals that he has Sereia in his arms. And at the same time, time has officially ran out.

Flashback Ends:

"I kind of got winded back there," Sereia says.

"We're just glad you and Jack didn't get hurt," Briar says.

"I guess you're right. That took the breath out of you," Grim says.

"True, but still, that's just how the bean rolls," Cater says.

"What that supposed to be an odd pun or something?" Briar questions.

Cater shrugs his shoulders in reply.

Then Jade turns to Cater, "By the way, Cater. You said you'd take a picture if we won, but now we've lost."

"That I did," Cater says in defeat, "Maaan... I had my victory hashtags all ready to go and everything. But hey, it was a fun way to spend a day. Briar. Sereia. Grimmy. Jade. We may not have won the day, but we WERE the last ones standing. How about a picture to commemorate that?"

"I'd be delighted," Jade says.

"Okay," Sereia says.

"Psh... If I hafta," Grim says.

"Okay then..." Briar says.

She then says, "Say Cheese everyone."

Then Cater takes the picture.

Later in the lounge of the Octavinelle Dorm.

Jade says to Azul, "Congratulations on earning the bonus prize, Azul."

"Hello, Jade," Azul says, "Honestly, I was sweating for a moment there. If not for Jack's reflexes, the farmers might have taken this year's game."

"Yes. I failed to properly account for Jack's abilities and paid the price. But it was still a fun day. After all, there aren't many opportunities for a vice housewarden to face off in earnest against his housewarden," Jade says.

"You're not wrong," Azul says, "I'm taking this as a lesson to NEVER get on your bad side if I can help it."

Jade chuckles, "Heh heh heh. I won't lose the next go-around."

"Bold words. You'll have to let me know how they taste when I make you eat them next year," Azul says.

"I'm already counting the days, Azul," Jade replies.
