Chapter Four: Three Steps Forward, Two Steps Back

The Next Day:

Amber: "So we're entrusting a total stranger with our teammate's safety?" The Next-Day, after failing another S-Class mission, Amber and her teammates except Grayson [Due to him and Ruby talking outside of MHA's entrance] met at the Library to talk about the appearance of Ruby Rose, Grayson's older sister: "And why after all this time does this "Big-Sister" wants to make her debut? Sounds fishy as hell if you ask me."

Yoshua: "Exactly." He agrees: "From what I've gathered from Grayson, he's pretty much left in the dark when it comes to his personal life. He doesn't know anything about his family members."

Shawn: "If they're like mine," He remarks: "They probably abandoned him and didn't abandon Silver-eye warrior-princess."

Amber: "Wait, you and him talked?" She asked Yoshua

Yoshua nods: "He couldn't sleep one night, I just happened to wake up." He tells Amber: "He told me about how he didn't know why he was telling me about his past at the orphanage or whatever, but he believed that he and I were...Brothers. Like, in real life."

Amber: "Have you ever thought of that by the way?" She asked Yoshua: "I dunno if you have or haven't, figured I'd ask that now while everything's calm."

Yoshua thinks about it for a moment: "But there was no way Dad could have had another son without him knowing it-"

Amber: "Unless he was drugged-"

Yoshua: "Do you really think my dad was drugged by some woman to create Grayson?"

Shawn: "Yoshu," he calls him: "This is Remnant we're talking about here." He tells Yoshua: "This place has so many rabbit holes that'll make you wonder if this is real life or a fantasy."

Yoshua didn't want to believe that some woman would do something like that to Owen, his father. But believe it or not...: "So Owen Yasuke is my Dad?" Sitting at a bench, Grayson was absorbing everything Ruby was telling him like a sponge.

"Mmm-hmm." Ruby nods, "I found out from my mom before she died on her deathbed that I had a brother and if I "cared so much about you", "then I should try to find you."" She tells Grayson, "She was a sweet woman in the beginning, but man did she turn sour when she got sick. Like spoiled Milk. Blech!"

Grayson: "Hey! That's our mom you're talking about!" He tells Ruby: "So Summer Rose is my Mom."

"Yep."

Grayson: "Owen Yasuke...Is My Dad."

"Yep."

Grayson: "And you're my big sister."

"Yep-Yep-and Yep!" Ruby embraces her younger brother, "I'm so sorry I didn't find you sooner. Had I did, you could have lived with me at my house. It's spacious enough for one more."

Grayson turned beet red while his face rested on Ruby's soft breast: "It's okay." He says: "So...Are there any more family members that I haven't met yet that are still alive?" He asked Ruby

"Well..." Ruby replies, "There's Cousin Fasha, Cousin Rhodes, Cousin Audrey, Cousin Amber, not your Amber but a different Amber, Cousin Lucy, Aunt Panya, Uncle Luke and Lastly...Um...Uncle Qrow? But he's a Branwen, so..."

That name caught Grayson's attention: "Wait-Wait-Wait-Wait," He stops Ruby: "Branwen? Qrow Branwen?"

"Yep." Ruby sighs, "Sadly he and Yang's side of the family are related to me and my father. May he rest in peace."

Grayson: "Yang...Yang...Is she tall, with blonde hair?" He asked Ruby

"Yep." She replies, "That's...Um...I dunno if calling her your half-sister will make me vomit or not" She rubs the back of her head

Grayson: "You hate her?" He asked

"Well...Honestly...Yeah." Ruby replied, "When Dad got sick, she didn't stick around to take care of him." She explains to Grayson, "She wanted to be a party girl while our Dad was dying. She didn't even show up to the funeral. She just..Ran away with Raven, who never raised her since she was a baby, and stayed with her since."

Grayson: "And who's Raven?"

"Raven is Uncle Qrow's sister." Ruby replied, "Her last name is Branwen too."

Grayson: "Raven...Branwen..." At that moment, it clicked: "The woman behind the Grimm Mask! That's her name! Raven Branwen! And Yang's her daughter!"

"Vernal too." Ruby sighs, "Can we talk about something else, please?" Ruby combs through her brother's hair. "I don't like talking about THAT side of the family."

Grayson: "Ok" He replies. But he kept that information stored in his mind to tell Yoshua as well as Shawn and Amber.

"Why'd you choose this life, Grayson?" Ruby asked her younger brother, "I chose this life, it wasn't given to me. Why couldn't you become something else? A cop? A martial artist? Anything but this."

Grayson looks down: "Honestly?" He tells Ruby: "If I didn't, how would you've found me? How would I embrace others socially? Relate to them even? I had a problem with that in the beginning, but now I don't. I owe that to my teammates and everyone else. So being a hunter from my point of view isn't all that bad."

"It will be once you get older." Ruby tells Grayson, "I had to learn that truth the hard way. I'll make sure to leave my number and address with you in case you change your mind. Do you need anything little brother? Money? Food? Anything at all?"

Grayson: "This is the only thing I need right now." He tells Ruby: "Thanks for finding me, big sister. I...I love you."

Ruby sweetly smiles down at her younger brother, fighting back the urge to cry after finding him after all this time. "I love you too, little brother." She said from the core of her heart, fighting back with all her might the urge to cry.

"Mother...Is this true? Is This "Yoshua" Our brother?" After Yang told Vernal the reason why she stepped in to stop her from attacking Yoshua, Vernal, while at the Branwen camp with Yang, took this opportunity to talk with Raven about what Yang had talked with her about.

"Yes." Raven replies, checking her weaponry, "Yoshua Yasuke is your brother and Yang's brother."

"Mother...Why didn't you tell us?" Vernal asked, shocked by this revealing truth about the 17 year old that was "Getting In Their Way", "You knew all this time...Why hide something like this from us?"

"Because I knew that you and Yang would defy my orders to run off and find him." Raven replies, "Finding out such truth as this would burn a passion within your heart and Yang's to bring this child into our life and embrace our lifestyle."

"Yes!" Vernal replies, "Why would we NOT want to desire that for OUR BROTHER!?"

"Daughter-"

"Do Not "Daughter" Me, Mother!" Vernal shouts, "All this time...All this lost time...How can I even look him in the face after what I tried to do to him yesterday? My little brother..."

Yang pats Vernal on her back. "Vernal," She says to her half sister, "We can think about apologizing and family reunions later. Right now, our Mother needs us. Now more than ever before. What we're getting ready to do to Atlas is going to be huge. It will go down in history as one of the unrealest things that has ever happened."

"After the fall of Atlas..." Vernal says to both Yang and Raven, "We ARE GOING TO FIND YOSHUA. We have to. Promise me. BOTH OF YOU!"

"I Wouldn't worry about finding him if I were you, dear daughter." Raven tells Vernal, "I believe in my heart for a fact that he will eventually come looking for us...Especially after what is going to happen to the Kingdom of Atlas."
