Chapter 6
"Yeah because my mom died!"
After you left Jackie and her friends you walked through the hallways towards the guidance counselor's room. As you finally arrived at the guidance counselor you knocked on the door.
Tara opened the doors giving me a confusing look. "Violet hey, What are you doing here?" She said. "Um, we had an appointment." You said to her.
"Oh shoot, yeah your right come in." She said guiding me to go inside. I made my way inside the room. "Have a seat." She said giving me a smile pointing her hand at the chair.
Tara took a seat at her desk sitting right in front of me. She looked in the drawer from her desk and pulled out a cookie jar. "If you want one just take." She said putting the jar on top of the desk. "Thanks." I said giving the older women a smile while putting my hand in the jar and taking a cookie out of it.
"So how are you feeling?" She asked putting her hands on the desk.
"I'm fine." I said looking away from her and looking at my hands that were laid on the desk as well.
She tilted her head to the side to try to get my focus on her again. "Violet I need you to be honest with me okay. Or else I won't be able to help you." She said giving me a soft smile.
"I'm fine really, I don't need your help." You said. "Okay fine." She said. "I also wanted to talk to you because of your grades." She said looking me straight into the eye. "It's not good Violet. I know it's just the beginning of the school year. But your grades are really low and teachers say you don't do your homework and that you skip a lot of classes." She added. You sighed "Well yeah as you said it's only the beginning I have a lot of time left." You said looking at Tara.
"I know but I'm just worried about you." She said. "Well like I said, I don't need your help and you don't need to worry about me. I'm copping just fine" I said to the women in front of me with a worrying look.
"How is it at home, with your dad and all?" She asked. You feel your face drop and you swallow hard.
"Um... yeah he is fine, it's fine." I said avoiding eye contact with the women while playing with the hem of my shirt.
"I also noticed that you are not seeing your friends anymore." She said in a sweet tone. "And I see you sitting alone when there is a break and some teachers say you are not trying to get involved with kids in your class, that you are shutting everyone out." She added.
"Yeah, because my mom died!" My voice getting louder and tears forming into my eyes. "Because the person who cared for me the most in the whole world died, and...nobody knows what to say to you when something like that happens. So..." I said while playing with the hem of my hoodie.
"No... I didn't stop seeing my friends. They stopped seeing me." I said looking away and taking a deep breath.
"Everybody just left me when I needed them to most. So isn't it a bit normal I don't want to make friends again or trust people." I said a tear rolling down my cheek with a strong tone.
"I know it's hard right now, but I want you to know I'm here for you okay?" She said giving me a warm smile. I gave her a smile back wiping the tear away. "Thank you." I said.
"So let's skip this subject and move to something else." She said giving me a smile and opening her computer. "So I see you haven't chosen and extra subject?" She said in a questioning tone giving me a quick glance. "I'm not really interested in another subject." I said giving her a glance back.
"Well Violet you know you have to choose one eventually." She said.
"Let me tell you which you can choose from." She said scrolling on her computer to look at the extra subjects I can choose from. "So we have the student council, track, drama and art." She said looking back at me.
"I am not really interested in any of those things.." I said to the women in front of me.
"Just think about it okay." She said staring at me.
"Sure I'll think about it can I leave know?" I asked her. "Sure." She said giving me a smile. I stood up from my seat and made my way towards the door. "Violet wait." She said standing up from her seat. I turned around to look at her. "I want us to meet regularly." She said.
"Seriously?" I asked her. "Yes, maybe once a week."
I just looked at her I didn't want to meet Tara every week just to talk about home my dad, my mom or my grades. I didn't want to do any of these things but I had to.
I just nodded at her and left the room. It was now the end of the school day and you decided to just go straight to your house to just lay in your bed all day doing nothing.
