Chapter 8
"Until now."

As the end of the school day neared it was time to go home. You left your classroom making your way outside the school. You decided to walk to the Lark café for a coffee.

As you arrived at the Lark you saw Jackie ordering something. "Hey Jackie." You said. The girl turned around and smiled. "Hey Violet." She said. "What are you doing here?" Jackie asked me.

"Just coming to grab some coffee." I said giving her a smile. "Here you go." The lady said from behind the counter. "Thanks." Jackie said to the lady taking the bag out of her hands. "Violet?" She said.

"Yes?" I answered. "Do you know where the vet clinic is?" She asked me. "Yeah, I can bring you there if you want." I said giving her a smile. "Thanks." She said giving me a big smile back.

I ordered my coffee and then we left towards the vet. "I saw you were late to school again." Jackie said turning her head towards me while we kept walking. "Yeah I over slept and my car broke down so I had to walk." I said looking at the girl.

I stopped in my tracks in front of a building. "Here it is." I said pointing at the building.

"Thanks." She said. We headed inside the building making our way towards the front desk.

"Hi, Can I help you?" A random man asked us from behind the desk. As Jackie was about to speak up a red headed woman came walking inside the waiting room.

"Hey, Jamal? Can you..." She said while looking at her clipboard in hand. She looked up seeing me and Jackie standing at the front desk. "Oh hi Jackie." The women said. "Hey Violet, I haven't seen you in a long time." She said giving me a smile.

"Hi miss Walter." I said giving her a smile back. "Please call me Kathrine. How are you doing." She asked me. "I'm doing fine thanks for asking." I answered to the women.

What are you too doing here?" She asked in surprise.

"Is that George's hat?" She asked us out of curiosity. Wanting to know why the girl wore her husbands hat. "Um, yeah, I guess. That's actually why I came here." Jackie said to Kathrine.

Kathrine smile fades as Jackie sighed while removing the cap.

"Oh god, What did you--, I mean, that's cool." She said while swallowing hard.

"Well, it wasn't deliberate." Jackie said. "Someone put hair bleach in the shampoo." She added looking down and then back up the her face. Kathrine's mouth dropped open in shock.

"Jackie, Violet follow me." She said tilting her head to the side gesturing us to follow her.

As we followed the red headed Walter mother. We headed to the back finally entering a room. Where nobody could see us anymore.

"Honey, you got to tell me what happened." Kathrine said to Jackie. "Do you have any idea who it was?" She asked us with a worrying tone.

It's crazy how sweet Kathrine was she cared for Jackie even though she wasn't her real daughter and just moved here. She treated her like she was her daughter.

Jackie furrows her brows. "Isaac said there was a bet." Jackie answered.

"Oh my god." Kathrine sighed looking down at the ground as she apologized. Then I heard a familiar voice coming from behind us. I turned around to see who it was.

"Hey." A tall blond headed boy said.

"Whoa." Cole said in shock while a little smile was forming on his face.
