Kristin's POV:
We had a lovely goodbye dinner last night. Just nice time spent as a family. The rest of that saturday was spent watching Tubbo practice wheelies in the garden and helping the boys with some of their summer work. We were getting to the end of most of it now. Techno needed to pull his finger out with his projects but all he needed was a day of hyperfocus (which we knew would happen once the time pressure of going back to school kicked in) and that would be done. Tubbo had no set work but Phil seemed happy with the level of his english, maths and science skills to start in September. Wilbur was a worrier, especially about his grades, so we had to check he wasn't working too hard rather than not at all. And Tommy was still enjoying learning so Phil and James were just getting through as much as they could with him and not really focusing on anything in particular.
In fact, with me away from today, James was around a lot more and Tommy would be pleased to see him and to get to do more work. As Tubbo had said, Tommy was smart and he hadn't been allowed to use it. It was the same reason he liked reading or so we thought. We had asked him but he hadn't really answered.
I heard a car pull up on the drive and opened the front door. Janet had been kind enough to come over at this ungodly hour so the boys weren't home alone whilst Phil drove me to the airport. I waved at her, welcomed her in and made her a cup of tea whilst we waited for Phil who was trying to settle Tommy after we'd accidentally woke up him.
In the end, Phil came thudding down the stairs with Tommy on his back. It wasn't safe but it was too early to argue. "Morning Mum," Phil said quietly.
"Morning Phil. Morning Tommy."
"He'll be fine. I'm just going to set him in Techno's arm chair and tuck him up. His iPad is on full charge and he's got his headphones. Kristin, can you put Doctor Who on for him whilst I get some snacks layed out?"
I did as he asked and told myself to keep calm because we'd left loads of time before my flight in case something like this happened. Once his favourite show was playing, I gave him a hug and a kiss on his forehead and slipped out the front door. We'd said goodbyes last night and I imagine Tommy's refusal to go back to sleep was to do with the anxiety of me not being there.
Phil eventually joined me outside and I looked at him with a guilty expression. "No." He stated immediately, getting into the car. I joined him in the front seats after putting my suitcase and bag in the boot.
"But are you sure-?"
"Everything will be fine. My mum knows what she's doing, she just made one mistake. I'll be back soon and Tommy will be fine. You need this week off."
"I know but-"
"Stop, just stop. One I need you to do the gate." I laughed. "Two," he continued, "we agreed that we would put the things in place we needed in order for you to have this week away. And we have. James is here for most of the day every day apart from Tuesday. Techno is at judo camp all week and we're just taking a chill week. It will be fine."
"Okay, but if something goes wrong, text me. Facetime with the boys every night."
"And the rest of the time, stop stressing and just enjoy yourself."
"Fine." I kissed him and got out of the car to do the gate.
Time skip:
I sat on the plane and settled myself in for the long flight. Silently, I worried about my boys. But Phil was right. Seeing my family, celebrating my birthday a little more and just getting some time out, would do me a world of good. As I turned on a movie, I tried to think positive things. Being a nervous flyer, that was never going to happen.
