Phil's POV:
I had another job interview on Monday. So after dropping the boys off at school, I went over and did my best. At the end of the interview, they offered me the job.
It's a small company. They do social media work although I'll admit I don't really understand it. Techno does understand it though and seems to also think it's cool, so it's won me some brownie points there. I took the contract home to sign it, reading it through and leaving it on the dinning table to talk through with Kristin later.
Going back to work was still a massive decision. We'd both be working and it hadn't been that way for years. At first I wouldn't be doing a lot. I was running their finance department (who currently was just me) which was a lot of work but they understood my situation and so my hours were pretty scaled back.
I won't work weekends. And in the week, I'll start at 9 and finish at 3. My work hours were technically 9-3.30 but we've agreed to include my lunch break at end of the day instead to help with getting the boys from school. I'll work in the office (5 minutes from the school) but we've also noted that if I need to be at home (e.g. one of the boys are ill are need to come home from school) that I can work from there too.
And I am actually quite looking forward to going back to work. Now that we're only on emergency placements (which we also only do when it's not going to impact on the boys), I find myself home alone all day and quite bored. There is only so much shopping, washing and cleaning you can do. Also, it will mean that the boys and Kristin will have to be involved around the house which is a good thing. Over the summer and the stress of back to school, we've let chores slip and I've cleaned far too many bedrooms that aren't my own. Building independence means that all the older boys should be helping with their own washing and keeping their own rooms cleaned as a minimum. And, on the advice of Tommy's new occupational therapist, we needed to start building Tommy's skills which also meant him putting washing in the machine or opening the little draw for the washing powder and fabric conditioner.
It also means that Tubbo can get back in the kitchen because I'm going to need the help. I'll talk to him about it a lot first though. We need to make it clear that we are still the parents, the ones in charge and who are supposed to look after everyone. Sometimes we might just need a little help with that.
As it got closer to 3, I finished folding washing off the clothes horse where it had been drying and took it upstairs, leaving the basket at the very top of the stairs for me (or one of the boys) to deal with later.
Then I grabbed my keys, slipped on some shoes and went to get the boys from school. As per usual, I hung around until most of the students and school buses had left. Pulling up into the now practically empty bus lane and sending a quick text to the group chat with all of the older boys on (we were still in the process of working out whether Tommy needed a phone and how to make sure he would be safe using it) to let them know I was there.
The four of them appeared at the car about a minute later, Tommy holding Techno's hand and Wilbur holding Tubbo's crutches. Since the incident with Dream he'd been hesitant to get back on them (even though we'd managed to replace them pretty quickly and decorate them as similarly as possible) and in combination with his increasing skill when using his wheelchair, Wilbur had been walking out whilst holding Tubbo's crutches every last week and I imagined probably every day this week as well.
He had physio on Thursday, in school as it was now, so I hoped Luke would be able to get him confident using them again. There with nothing wrong with him using the wheelchair, but for his recovery overall, he needed to keep using the crutches and practicing his walking.
"Good days?" I asked, waiting for Tubbo to get himself into the back seat before taking the wheelchair and putting it in the boot where Techno was placing everyone's backpacks.
