Matt had always had driving anxiety. From the moment he got his licence, he had always been a cautious driver, and sometimes, when his anxiety was bad, he'd try to avoid driving completely. But, unfortunately, today, Matthew could not do that.

It was a stormy evening, and Matt was going to CVS since Chris was sick at home. He drove alone because Nick stayed with Chris. Matt had to pick up some medicine, and a few tissues. The storm wasn't bad on the way to CVS, but on the way back, it was like a downpour. Thunder boomed, and lightning cracked as heavy raindrops soaked everything outside. Anxiety clawed at Matt's chest as he paid for the items, glancing through the window.

"Shit, it's really rough out there, isn't it?" the cashier said, putting Matt's purchases into a plastic bag.

Matt's anxiety rose even more, if that was even possible. "Yeah, it is," he replied curtly. "Thank you, ma'am, have a good night."

Matt walked quickly to the van, setting the plastic bag down in the passenger seat with trembling hands. He sighed as he brushed water droplets from his sweatshirt. He put the van in drive, and slowly began to drive home. Matt's heart rate picked up with every deafening boom of thunder. His hands shook against the wheel, and tears clouded his vision. His breaths came labourously as his chest heaved for air.

What if I crash? I'll leave Nick and Chris at home, Chris is sick, he can't be alone-

Matt was panicking. In one swift movement, Matt pulled over and began dialling Nick's number. He was sobbing now, breathing in sharp gasps as he cried.

"Matt?" Nick's voice came through the phone.

"Nick- I-" Matt sobbed.

Nick's heart just about broke at the sounds of his little brother's cries. "Matty... what's going on, honey?"

"I can't breathe!" Matt choked out. "I can't- I can't breathe!" his hands pulled at his hair as he gasped for air.

"Matt, yes, you can. Listen to me. Focus. You're okay. Breathe in for four... good, Matt..." Nick soothed. "And out for four... okay? Just keep taking deep breaths." Nick said calmly.

Matt's breathing had slowed down, but the feeling of anxiety hadn't gone away. "Nicky, can you stay on the phone?" Matt cried. "I'm scared..." he said softly.

"I know you are, sweetheart. But you're so close to home!" Nick said, checking Matt's location on Find My Friends. "You're only about 10 minutes away, sweets."

Matt started the van again and took deep breaths as he merged back onto the road. lightning cracked, and Matt began to panic again. "Nick!" he cried, panic in his voice.

"No, no, Matt. Keep breathing. You're almost home, you're okay." Nick assured Matt.

"Oka- okay. I bought the- um- I got the stuff," Matt sniffled, trying to distract himself from the panic. "How is Chris?"

"He's doing better, his fever went down, so that's good," Nick replied.

Matt pulled into the driveway and sighed with relief. "I'm home, Nicky."

"I knew you could do it, babe," Nick said happily, proud of Matt for facing his fears.

When Matt stepped into the house, Nick was waiting for him with a big bear hug, some water, and the latest on the sicky.

Matt was okay, and the next day, the storm had gone away, and it was a beautiful sunny week.

the end!!
