The dinner was an every-which-way ordeal. There was no space for everyone to sit and eat together. As a result, people were scattered all over the common rooms like the living room, the den, and the garden. Some even pulled up extra chairs from the storage room. It was a mess. In between the mess stood the scariest wolf, leaning at the threshold between the living room and the dining hall, eyeing each member. He made them conscious to the point where some even spilled their food. Whenever that happened, the person in question would take one look at the wolf and scurry to find a mop. Arthur sighed mentally at their behavior. He wanted to go to his office and take a breather but understood the importance of bonding with the pack.

Bracing himself, he moved off the walk and began walking. To socialize. The pack members relaxed when he smiled lightly at them and nodded, whispering welcoming words to a few of them. Despite the misconception that rogues had no manners, he had the same manners as any pack wolf if not more. He was not born a rogue, after all.

A little bit hesitant about moving further, he stopped. Rationality kicked in and he held his breath, ignoring the fact that he was moving towards that delicious scent. Now he was in the messiest and most crowded area of the room and smack in the middle was his mate, wedged between two of his brothers with his legs positioned awkwardly due to lack of space.

Arthur's wolf roused within him. Panicked, he staggered back. The sudden movement gained his mate's attention. His wolf stirred more sensing his mate's eyes on him. Nodding at one of the Gray brothers, Arthur stepped back and hurried to his room.

He burst into the bedroom and locked the door behind him. In a daze, he walked to the bed and sat on it in slow motion. Putting his head in his hands, he inhaled and exhaled slowly before repeating the process. Once he was calm, he laughed humorlessly. He was a mess and his mate appeared to be the same. Oh, how they perfectly fit in the mess on the ground floor.

Phineas' eyes remained glued to the door from where his mate exited. No matter how hard his wolf tried to hide it, contrary to his complete aloofness to the sudden departure or well-being of the Alpha, his wolf was a tad worried. The uneasiness inside him gave his feelings away. He began shifting his body uncomfortably, acting like it was the tiny space he was stuffed in. If his brothers knew he was mated to the Alpha, it would be a poor attempt on his part to conceal his restlessness. His acting skills were a two out of ten.

Groans of irritation rang out from both ends and he stilled his body with a sigh.

"Do you need to go pee?"

"What?"

"I asked whether you want to use the washroom, Phin?"

"Maybe?"

His brothers stared at him with raised eyebrows before shooing him away with a parting insult - "And he calls us kids." There were murmurs of agreement. Ignoring the jibe, he glided out of the room.

A heavy weight lifted off Phineas' shoulder before another heavier one settled back. Where did he want to go? Why did he make an excuse to get out of there? Did he want to get some fresh air? Was he planning to go to Arthur? He wished the last one was not what he was aiming for subliminally. In the end, he pushed himself to go to his own room. He sat on the bed and put his head in his hands, unknowingly mimicking his mate's posture and reflecting his feelings. After a few deep breaths, he let himself go, allowing thoughts to enter his mind. His body was fighting with his mind while his heart stayed neutral. A headache formed immediately. The choice was difficult but it has to be made. He chose his wolf and ran out of his room.

It took a lot of courage to knock on the door and lose self-respect to enter when he did not receive an answer.

"My wolf wouldn't let me rest until I come here and ask you what is wrong."

Arthur looked up and with a malicious grin questioned back - "So you are asking me if I am fine?"

Phineas narrowed his eyes at the cocky Alpha, determined to bring his ego down a notch. "Not me, my wolf."

"Is that so?" Arthur was relieved at Phineas' presence. He was glad the stupid wolf took his attention away from the load of baloney his mind was conjuring up. Apart from that, Phineas was fun to toy with. "And you listened to him and came straight to me?"

"No, I took a pit stop to pick up a knife."

"Not your kind of toy." When Phineas' face turned a shade of pink, it was then Arthur realized how his words sounded. "You look more like a fairy wand type of person."

If anything Phineas' face turned a shade darker. "You are an asshole. Yes, I am into guys, so what? Even if I was not, I would never insult anyone like you did."

Arthur rolled his eyes. Internally, he was cursing himself for the foolish comment. "I am not insulting anyone else or targeting any community in particular. Trust me, my sole intention was to insult you and only you."

Phineas let out a half laugh, disbelief coating his features. "Are you for real? Should I feel special? Lie at your feet in gratitude?"

"Maybe."

Phineas stared at Arthur in disgust. "You are delusional. I came here only to sate my wolf and now he does not want to be anywhere near you. I will leave now."

Arthur had no idea why he did it but stopping Phineas was not intentional. Could it be his wolf? He hoped yes and no. He was scared of either of the answers and hence spewed whatever came to his mind. "Tell me this, if your wolf wants to kiss me tomorrow, then you will come to my room and ask me to kiss you to sate your wolf?"

The younger wolf's face turned devoid of emotions and with a look that screamed what he was going to say should have been obvious, he answered - "No."

The answer agitated the Alpha for reasons unknown and within a second he was in Phineas' face, gripping his neck and growling. "Good. Because if you did, I would rip your throat out."

Despite fear taking over his whole being, Phineas did not let it show. He squared his shoulders and looked Arthur in the eye before challenging the Alpha, "What if it is you who wants to kiss me?"

Arthur let out a thunderous growl, glaring at Phineas. "Impossible." To his surprise, Phineas laughed.

"Why? You look a second away from kissing me."
