There is something missing from our world... the amazing animals that time has left behind. But what if we could bring them back?, what if extinction didn't have to be forever?... we're going back in time on a safari with a difference, as wildlife adventurer Nigel Marven, plunges into prehistory to rescue creatures on the brink of extinction. His plan is to bring them back to the safety of the present, and give them a second chance. His second mission is set on the Ice Age, where he'll come face to face with a Woolly rhino, try to outrun an angry cave bear, and solve the mystery of what is killing the last Woolly Mammoth on earth. Welcome to the ultimate wildlife sanctuary... welcome to Prehistoric Park.
Prehistoric Park was starting to come to life as it's now home to the Dinosaurs that Nigel, Alan and Blue rescued on their first mission some time ago. Nigel hopes that the park could breed extinct animals, but right now he's only planning to bring back a few of each species to if they could adapt to life in the 21st century, so far they're doing fine. Now Nigel was at T-Rex Hill, home of the young T-Rex pair, Terrance & Matilda, to watch them getting some meat. When Nigel, along with Alan and Blue found them, they suddenly became orphans, after their mother was killed in a fight against an Ankylosaurus, so they had to rescue the pair before the great Dinosaur extinction, caused by the astroid could get them. Nigel: "Boy they sure are hungry." Bob: "No kidding, if they need to eat this much when little, wonder how much they'll need they grow up." Nigel: "Well the T-Rex did hunt large prey back in the wild like Triceratops or a Hadrosaur like Edmontosaurus, so they'll need a lot of meat to satisfy their hunger." that was when Alan and Blue showed up. Alan: "Hey Nigel, I just got a call from Ellie, she just told me that they have arrived." Nigel: "Really?, well then I better go see them." it was not too long before Nigel went to the large savannah area in the park and sees Ellie Sattler (played by Laura Dern), Alan's childhood friend and a Paleobotanist, with 6 African Elephants. Prehistoric Park is more than just a place for extinct animals like Dinosaurs, but also animals that are endangered like the Elephants for example. This certain herd was lucky enough to be rescued from some poachers, now they live in the savannah habitat of the park. Nigel: "Hey Ellie, I see they arrived here safely." Ellie: "Yeah, we were lucky enough to stop those poachers from getting them." Nigel: "No kidding, and I have an idea on how to celebrate their arrival." Ellie: "What's that?" Nigel: "By going back in time to the Ice Age to rescue a Woolly Mammoth or two." Ellie: "That sounds like a wonderful idea." that was when Alan came up. Alan: "I wish that I could say the same, as I don't think Blue could make the trip." said Alan, who was indeed right, while Blue might be warm blooded instead of cold blooded like modern day reptiles, she was still a reptile, which would not do well in the cold. Nigel: "Oh you're right, and you're the only person who could keep Blue under control." Alan: "Which means I'll have to stay behind." Ellie: "Are you sure you can make the trip by yourself?" Nigel: "Actually I was hoping you can come." Ellie: "Me?!" Alan: "Why not?, You're part of the rescue team as well." Ellie: "But I normally go with the modern day animals, not the extinct ones." Nigel: "Don't worry Ellie, you'll be fine as long as you stay with me, and if you were able to handle these Elephants, then you could do the same with a Mammoth or two." Ellie: "Well... okay, I guess it wouldn't hurt to try." Nigel: "That's the spirit." so now Nigel, along with Ellie are getting ready to travel to the last Ice Age in Siberia, 10,000 BC, the time when the Woolly Mammoths were on the brink of extinction. They reached the holding pens when the portal was opened, and they were wearing coats to keep themselves warm from the bitter cold. Once they went through the portal, they found themselves in a world that was covered snow, mountains, and a huge pine tree forest. Ellie: "Well... I see a lot of pine trees, but no Mammoths." Nigel: "This is one of the big reasons why Mammoths went extinct, their digestive system can't handle pine needles, and the trees have taken over the land that once belonged to grass, and not just the Mammoths were effected, but also other Ice Age animals like a Woolly Rhino." Ellie: "Which makes our search for a Mammoth a lot harder." Nigel: "Yes, but we can't let that stop us, come on." while searching for a Mammoth, they managed to find a cave, Nigel went inside to see if there are any creatures inside. Suddenly, the roar of a bear was heard and Nigel walked backwards as what looked like a huge bear came and it did not looked happy at all. Nigel: "Run!" called out Nigel, as he and Ellie made a run for it as the large bear begins chasing them. Once they managed to climb up one of the trees, they stayed there until the bear gave and left as it was too big and heavy to follow up. Ellie: "That's the biggest bear I've ever seen!" Nigel: "I do believe that was a Cave Bear, an extinct species of bear that lived in the Ice Age, I thought for sure they were extinct at this time." Ellie: "He must be the last one." Nigel: "Yes, but sadly we don't have a way to bring him back to the park, so we'll have to leave him be..." Ellie: "Don't feel down Nigel, at least we get to see one." Nigel: "True, now let's continue our search for the Mammoth." said Nigel, as he and Ellie climbed down the tree and continued their search, until they heard the sound that an elephant would make. Nigel: "You hear that?" Ellie: "Yeah, it sounds like an Elephant, but there aren't any Elephants around here..." Nigel: "No, but there are Mammoths, and since Mammoths are like an Elephant's Ice Age cousin, they most likely make the same sounds, which means there might be a Mammoth nearby." so they followed the sound until they found a small clearing area where a pair of Mammoths were, but one of them was dead. Nigel: "Oh no... looks like some Ice Age hunters got here first." Ellie: "Ice Age hunters?, you mean humans of this time?" Nigel: "Yes, over hunted by early people was the main reason why the Mammoths became extinct, the worst part is that this is still happening in the 21st century, only they do it for money instead of just for food like the people in this time..." said Nigel in a sad tone as he knows what he said was true, as Ellie places her hand on his shoulder to give him comfort. They came closer to the dead Mammoth, which was being guarded by another Mammoth, which was still alive but injured. The living Mammoth tries to charge, but she was too weak and hurt to stand up as she was forced to lay down on the ground. Ellie: "Poor thing, we gotta do something quick if she has any chance of survival." Nigel: "And it looks like there's a spear head stuck onto her shoulder, we need to give her some antibiotics to avoid infection, but she might need some rest to hopefully get enough strength to go through the portal." Ellie: "What do we do until then?" Nigel: "We might as well guard her from predators in the area, including the Ice Age human hunters." said Nigel, who then takes another look at the Mammoth. When night came, the sound of wolves howling was heard, and it was not long before a pack of wolves appeared and tried to attack, but Nigel and Ellie used their torches to scare them off. To keep the wolves away, Nigel set up some torches to surround the area, which seems to be working, but there is one predator that is used to fire... the Ice Age human hunters, who would have made their move if they weren't too busy trying to keep the wolves away from themselves. When morning finally came, Nigel sets up the time portal while Ellie takes out a tape recorder that plays the sound of Elephants, which lures the Mammoth into the portal and into the holding pens. Suzanne managed to remove the spear tip off of the Mammoth's shoulder, and now the Mammoth will start her new life in the park, and she was now called Martha. Bob relocates the Ornithomimus to an enclosure with a pond as the old one had grass, which was something the Dinosaur can't eat. Bob decided to name the enclosure Ornithomimus Pond, which the female Ornithomimus finds a much better place to live. It was not long before feeding time has come, and all the animals were enjoying their food, that is except for Martha, who has not eaten anything since she got to the park, and no one knows why. Nigel: "If Martha doesn't eat soon, she'll won't last long." Alan: "Any clues on why she won't eat?" Nigel: "Maybe the grass here just isn't right for her, maybe if I go back to the Ice Age, about 150,000 BC, and collect some of the grass there, she might eat it." so with that, Nigel and Ellie went back to the portal to travel to the Ice Age, 150,000 BC, a time when Mammoths were at their prime. While collecting some of the grasses there, they noticed on how many female Mammoths were traveling together, before some of them were being chased by a large bull Mammoth, who was looking for a female to mate with. Ellie: "We must be in the Mammoth mating season." Nigel: "Yeah, so we better keep a good distance, for I got a feeling that if the bull Mammoth sees us, he'll charge." suddenly, they noticed another animal in the area, it looked like a rhino that was just as woolly as the Mammoths and had a single huge horn. Nigel: "It's an Elasmotherium, a prehistoric rhino, and I believe it's a male as the females are smaller." Ellie: "And I think we might be in trouble." suddenly, the bull Mammoth appeared as it let out an Elephant call that spooked the Elasmotherium, causing it to step back as even the rhino knows better than to stand in the way of a bull Mammoth. Nigel and Ellie made a run for it in order to avoid the bull Mammoth's wrath. A few moments later, Nigel takes his binoculars out and sees that the bag he used to collect the grass was right in front of the Elasmotherium. Ellie: "Please don't tell me that you're planning on bringing that rhino back to the park." Nigel: "Why not?, this is the time when the Elasmotherium were on the brink of extinction, and it might be the only way to get the bag back too." so with that, Ellie sets up the time portal, while Nigel gets the grass bag, which caught the attention of the Elasmotherium. Soon the Wooly Rhino began to charge, and the human pair ran through the portal as the rhino followed in. once they got to the holding pens, they trapped the rhino into one of the pens, making the Elasmotherium the latest addition to Prehistoric Park. Bob: "What's going on here?, I thought you said that you were only bringing back some grass." Nigel: "Yeah well he's what you might call an extra, and quite a sight to behold too." Bob: "Well I better call Suzanne and tell her about our newest arrival." once the Elasmotherium was placed in his new enclosure, Nigel tries to feed Martha with the grass, but she just won't eat at all. Ellie: "Hey Nigel, I think Martha looks lonely." Nigel: "I think you're right, and you remember how we saw so many Mammoths traveling together in our trip in the Ice Age, just like the modern day Elephants." Ellie: "Yeah, maybe she thinks that eating and being alive is pointless if she's all alone..." Nigel: "Yeah, now I really wished that I got to her sooner, then maybe her herd mate would still be alive..." Ellie: "It wasn't your fault Nigel, you just can't save everyone." Nigel: "I know..." later when evening came, Nigel was having a meeting about what to do on Martha and her loneliness. Nigel: "I think we should try putting Martha in with the Elephant herd, maybe they could cure her loneliness." Bob: "Are you sure that's a good idea?" Nigel: "No, but we got to do something quick, cause Martha won't have a future if we don't." said Nigel, before everyone else nodded in agreedment as they know that Nigel was right. When morning finally came, the team introduced Martha to the Elephant herd. They were nervous at first, but once they see that Martha looked much happier seeing the Elephants, they knew that their plan might be working. Alan: "Looks like Martha will be much happier here now." Nigel: "Indeed she will." said Nigel, as he and the others were watching Martha following the Elephants.
Next time: Nigel goes back 120,000,000 BC to prehistoric China to rescue a small Dinosaur with four wings, but there will be some giants there too, while a heat wave give some of the animals a hard time in the present, all next in Prehistoric Park.
Animals rescued: African Elephants: 6 females/ Mammoth: 1 female/ Elasmotherium: 1 male.
