Gortash × Durge male reader

(Less of a romance and more of remembering what once was)

The two were alone. Together, yet still so far apart. It was a personal request from the lord across from him.

(Y/n) could practically taste Gortash's melancholy attitude... his smile was much too weak.

"After all this time, you're finally back... but for what? To... stop this? Your own plan?"

The (race) stood proud, eyes narrowed into distrusting slits.

"I don't remember who I was. I may never remember it all... but I do know that it's wrong. I'm here to correct the atrocities of my past."

Gortash's smile fell completely, replaced by a rather hurt glare.

"And what of Bhaal? Do you really think he'll let you go just because you deny the blood in your veins? He'll smite you down. Is that what you want?"

(Y/n) paused.

"Why do you care? I'm in your way now. Wouldn't you prefer me dead?"

The lord grit his teeth. The (taller/shorter) found himself in a rather tight embrace before he could even blink.

"Do you really not remember this? Us?"

The (race) blinked once. Twice.

"After all I've done, you still consider me a... friend?"

Gortash froze... then a growl rippled through his chest and he shoved the other away.

"You always could be so dense... we were more than that. We shared a bed, and we agreed to be together after the ploy was over. I was hoping that-"

He bit his own tounge, cutting himself off before he could spill his heart out.

"I wanted... to be with you again. As if nothing ever happened."

"Well, something did happen. A lot of things, actually. First and foremost, I'm... spoken for."

If the lord was upset, he hid it well.

"And secondly, I am my own person now. I have no desire to become a monster, whether Bhaal's perfect little killer or one of the chosen to destroy this world."

(Y/n) glared at Gortash, watching as the mask he wore began to crumble.

"I'm going to stop you. Both of you."

The (race) turned to leave just as the lord called out.

"Since when did you have a heart?! What changed?! How did I..."

Lose you.

"I suppose you have Orin to thank for that. I forgot everything... then I met people who showed me how to be good. I met the man who gave me something to protect. I wouldn't trade any of them for all the power or wealth in the world."

Gortash could do nothing but watch as (Y/n) left, and he knew the (race) wouldn't be coming back.

Whatever was left of his heart felt completely shattered...
