Malfoy's POV

Lily looked tired, exhausted and exasperated. She smiled and waved goodbye to Dean. She stood there pressing her hands to her forehead. She was also stressed, I could tell. I stood in a groove just watching her. That's all I seemed to do these days, apart from doing jobs for the Dark Lord. I missed her so much.

She missed me, I knew it. From the first night, when we were in that groove together and she kissed me. It took everything in me to let her go. But I knew that we both didn't want that. But something had changed, she seemed to have shut herself down. It was weird. She and Granger, yes I say Granger now, because she had drilled it into me when we were going out. Anyway, she and Granger had been having these really bad fights.

It was sad, she didn't talk to Harry anymore, she wasn't happy and cheerful. I don't know. I don't know where my girl went to. No, that's it, she isn't my girl anymore. She's with Thomas. Who isn't bad really. I always though he was nice. He seems to treat her well and yes they hadn't broken up yet. Yet.

I followed her. Stalker much? Yeah. She went into the Forbidden Forest, a place she goes frequently, to get away from everything. I followed her, trying to be as quite as can be. She stopped and I peered out from behind my tree. She was patting her dragon. I remember her, Opal? I think she named it, after the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Dumbledore let her keep it here.

I accidentally stepped on a twig and her wand was whipped out and I came flying our from behind th entree with one of her charms. I hit the ground in front of her. Hard.

"Jesus, Lily." I pick myself up off the ground. She scowls. I shook my head. "What are you doing down here?"

"Hunting elephants?" She asked, rather rudely. I shook my head again.

"Right, talking to Opal, cool." She laughed, not her beautiful hearty laughs either, a bitter laugh. I frowned. "So, how are you?"

I sat beside the dragon, she wasn't ratherly big either. Opal was staring at Lily, she couldn't draw her eyes away. Mages magic was pretty awesome, if you asked me. "I'm vine, how are you." She said shortly.

I shook my head, yet again. "Okay, Lily, your not fine. What's the matter? You argue with Hermione, you look stressed out, tired, exasperated and depressed. Is this because we broke up? Because of what happened?"

She looked at me. "Excuse me? You zhink I'm going to cry and wither over you? Ve broke up two years ago, get over yourself." She stood and walked away. She stopped and turned once. "You better hurry up and get out of here after I leave, before the Mages magic wears off. Otherwise I'll make her eat you, if she doesn't."

She turned and hurried up the path. I waited a minute before hurrying after her. I didn't doubt for a second, that Lily would make Opal eat me. I was a horrible, horrible person. Especially to her.

"So tell me Cormack, do you see anything of you uncle Tibirias these days?" Slughorn asked, as we sat at his dinner party. We had finished dinner and were on to our desert.

"Yes, sir, in fact I'm meant to go hunting with him and the minister of Magic over the holidays." McCormack boasted.

He glanced at Hermione who looked away, disgusted. I smirked and went back to the conversation. "Be sure to give them my best. What about your uncle Belby. For those of you who don't know Marcus' uncle invented the Wolfsbane potion. Is he working on anything new?"

"Don't know." Belby said through a mouthful of ice cream, he was shovelling into his mouth. "He and my dad don't talk. Dad says his potions are rubbish."

I glanced at an uncomfortable Blaise sitting next to Belby who caught my gaze and I quickly went back to my ice cream. "So Miss Granger, what exactly do your parents do, in the muggle world?"

She froze. "My parents are dentists." Everyone stopped and looked at her. "They fix people's teeth."

"Fascinating. And is that considered a dangerous profession?" Slughorn asked.

"No. Though a boy did bite my father once, he had to get stitches." She boasted at the end. I rolled my eyes and just ate my ice cream.

At that moment Ginny walked in. She wore a pretty sequinned dress, black and silver. As she walked over to the table Harry stood up, it was so awkward that I started laughing, then pretended to choke. Hermione covered for me by patting me in the back. I leant away and had to hid my smile. Neville turned towards me and we had a laughing fit, a quiet one, together. We rejoined the conversation and both Harry and Ginny were glaring at us. Which made us laugh even harder.

Slughorn said goodbye to everyone and Harry pulled me back inside the classroom. Slughorn turned and jumped at the site of us. "Oh Harry! Lily!"

"Oh sorry sir. We were just admiring your hour-glass."

"It's beautiful." I added.

"Thank you, most fascinating object. Runs in accordance of the quality of the conversation. Nice colour that one too." Slughorn explained.

"I think we'll just be going then." Harry said suddenly. What?! Didn't t he want to stay behind?

"Nonsense dear boy!" Slughorn exclaimed. "As for some of your classmates, well let's just say they won't be making the shelf!"

"The shelf sir?" I asked. He pointed to the shelf off to the side of the door. I noticed that they were the same pictures from the house. "Oh, zhat shelf."

"Anyone who is anyone, ends up here. But of course you two already are someone's." He looked at us and smiled.

"Did Voldemrot ever make the shelf sir?" Slughorn froze. I rolled my eyes. If was too late for this and I all I wanted to do was sleep. "You knew him didn't you? You were his teacher?"

"Mr Riddle had a number of teachers here, while at Hogwarts." Slughorn muttered.

"What was he like?" Harry pushed. Slughorn didn't answer. "Sorry sir, forgive me, he killed our parents."

"Oh of course, it's only natural for you to want to know more. But I'm afraid I must disappoint you Harry, when I first met Mr Riddle, he was a very quiet young wizard, eager to become a first grade wizard, much like yourself. Still the monster existed. It was buried deep within.

"Yes, vell you vouldn't blame him. He vas orphaned by 'is parents, sent to an orphanage, horrible place, probably abused and bullied by zhe children and terrified, because he vas different from everyone else, by been able to do magic. All alone. No I veally don't blame him for becoming mean and terrible."

I said, and turned and walked out the door. Time to go to sleep I should think. But no. Out of nowhere a hand shoots out and drags me down a hall. It releases me and I look up to find Blaise. "Oh, hey Blaise. Vhat's wrong?" I rubbed my eyes, trying to stay awake.

We had been good friends, in fact I had been good friends with all the Slytherin boys, not Pansy, and she counts as a boy. "It's Malfoy. The only reason I went to that dinner, was because Malfoy begged me to keep an eye on you. He's acting so strange this year and he wasn't perfect last year either. What's happening?"

"Blaise, your a Slytherin, the entire Slytherin house should know. It has everything to do vith him."

Blaise froze. "You mean?"

"Didn't you know? I vould have thought zhat Draco vould have at least told you. Over the summer he was given the Dark Mark. He's a Death Eater."

"Damn, I knew that it was going to happen, but we're only in sixth year! Jeez, poor guy." He looked at me. "Wait, is that why you two broke up?"

I nodded softly. "He's trying to protect me, but vith him always following me around and getting people to keep an eye on me. But I suppose he's right. As usual."

"It's funny, usually it's him saying that about you." We laughed quietly to each other. "He's worried about you, you know? Says you've been actin' different."

"Yeah, vell a lot of things hav' changed Blaise. I better go. Night." I turned and without another delay made it safe and sound, back to my bed.
