THANDAZA

Ronnie left really early to meet a woman named Lungi. He said there is a possibility that he has a brother out there, I hope it works out.

I am left alone in the apartment, and I am so bored. I am not working today, and I don't have any plans. Might as well call my sister and chat with her. Instead, I received a call from my mother. God! Give me strength. I answered

Me:Hello?

Mom:Thandaza, I have been calling you for weeks now. Why aren't you answering your phone?

Me:I was held up at work, ma, I'm sorry.

Mom:It's okay, I wanted to talk to you about something.

Me:What is it?

Mom:The Mzulwini family are doing a tomb unveiling this coming weekend. It would be nice if you show up.

Me:Why would I do that? They hate me!

I shouted that last part a bit.

Mom:I know, my baby. Maybe they will finally consider forgiving you because they will see that you are sorry.

Me:I can't, mom. Maybe some other time.

Mom:Okay, I knew you would be like this. Are you still taking your pills?

Me:Everyday.

Mom:Be safe. Skhulile told me you are dating.

Me:*smiling*Yebo, his name is Ronnie. He treats me so well.

I heard her sigh deeply, and I just knew what he was thinking.

Mom:I thought you weren't going to get into another relationship until you heal. I don't know why your sister encouraged you with this.

Me:Life is moving, ma. I'm not getting younger. At some point in my life, I need a family. Maybe a baby.

Mom:After what happened the last time?

Me:I know, but that was five years ago. And I need to let my fears go.

Mom:I hear you, please be careful. And come see me with your boyfriend.

Me:What for?

Mom:I just want to talk with him. Next week.

Me:I will let him know.

Mom:Okay, bye.

I hung up and bit my bottom lip. How will I tell Ronnie that my mother wants to see him? It's only been a month and a few days since we dated. But knowing my mother, she won't give up until he comes.

Narrative

At Ronnie's homestead(where his parents live)

Ronnie's mother, Mzilikazi(clan name of her maiden surname, her husband loves to call her like that), is sitting on the couch. She is deep in thoughts that she is unbothered by anything moving in front of her.

Her son's phone call scared her yesterday. She never thought this day would come, they said they would relocate. What are they doing back here in KZN?

She reaches for her phone and calls the number she never thought she would ever call again. It rings for a while.

“Sizakele?” The other person asks, shock and surprise in her voice.

Siza:Yes, it's me. How are you, Ntombi?

Ntombi:I am surprised by you calling me. I never thought I would ever hear from you again.

Siza:Me too, but things are getting unveiled, sisi.
