CHAPTER SEVEN

One thing I love the most about Lewiaa is that she isn't the type that keeps things at heart, when it was morning she woke me up as if we didn't have an argument last night.
Am sorry lewisa on how I spoke to you last night I understand you were just looking out for me but look the damage is already done and it has happened already.
"It's alright, at this point just be careful"
"I will"
I didn't want to tell her yet about the other meetings that we had with Likss!,I felt so embarrassed because about what happened between him and I,i can't believe myself I had sex last night with a man I barely knew worse off I sniked out of the dorms in the night, this thought kept bugging me.
This time around we were in time for class, in the afternoon people from the hospital were coming over to educate the pupils and teacher on HIV, I knew about it but only the surface like what it stands for, I was excited amd looking forward to learn more about it.
When time came we gathered in the school hall all members of staff sat in front facing us, the doctors and nurses in bright white coats stood in between, as they wanted to make it fun for everyone.
"We don't want to see anybody dozing, we want to see everyone ask questions and interact, there will be prizes at the end of this discussion so you all should pay attention" the doctors said
To begin with am Dr Jonathan and these are my colleagues Dr Samuel and nurse Ruth, with that done can some body tell me what HIV stands for,
There were hands waving to to pointed at all over the room
  "You over there"
   "HIV stands for Human immunodeficiency virus"
  "A round of applause everyone, for the correct answer from the smart, handsome gentleman" said Dr Jonathan as he continued to speak, HIV can be transmitted from one person to another when certain bodily fluids are shared,these bodily fluids include, semen (cum), blood, pre-seminal fluids (pre-cum), vaginal fluids ands breastfeeding,People with HIV who are not on medication and do not have consistent control of their HIV can transmit HIV through vaginal or anal sex, sharing of needles(for injecting drugs or tattooing), pregnancy and/or breastfeeding.
If HIV is controlled the risk of transmission is close to zero.
  "Doctor,how can we reduce the risk of getting HIV?" asked Sharon
People without HIV, there are several ways to reduce the risk of acquiring(getting) HIV infection, use condoms correctly whenever you have sex with someone,particularly with partners that are HIV positive with a detectable viral load or with partners whose HIV status is unknown,there is also need to limit and reduce sexual partners.
You as pupils need to avoid sex and abstain, if you are sexually active make sure to use a condom, you can also talk to health care providers about pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), PrEP is an HIV prevention option for people who do not have HIV but who are at risk of becoming infected with it.
At that moment I completely zoned out and got lost in my thoughts "I just had sex with Likando last night",I whispered to myself,is it possible for me to have this HIV today, he didn't use a condom on me and I don't know about his HIV status and how many sexual partners he has, I started to panick wondering whether or not I should talk to Lewisa about it.
I was so scared for my life, I can't face Likando and ask him directly about his hiv status,I will write a letter to him and express my concerns about this matter immediately after this lesson,I said to myself whilst trying to be strong and at the same time hoping for positive answers from Likando.
  "Can we stand up and stretch our bodies"
Everybody stood,that's the moment I came back to reality I was still bothered but I had to pay attention so that I know how to handle this.
  "You can take your seats now ladies and gentlemen,that was just a quick exercise" said Dr Samuel let us continue..oh I can see a hand in the back young lady you stand up and ask,
  "Doctor, is there a treatment for those living with HIV?"
Antiretroviral therapy (ART) these are medicines used to treat HIV infection, it is recommended for everyone who has HIV, it prevents HIV from multiplying, having less HIV in the body protects the immune system and prevents HIV infection from advancing to AIDS, it does not cure HIV but helps people with  HIV live long and healthy lives.
In conclusion what you need is a positive attitude towards your HIV status, a change in life style and a good diet.
As soon as he concluded everyone gave a round of applause to the doctors and the closing remarks were passed by Mr Likando who said
"Remember to test for your HIV status and use a condom especially when you are not sure about your partner stay safe HIV is real"
His words sounded as though they were coming to me, why didn't he use a condom on me when he knows that's the right way to go but here he is advising us to all use condoms and be sure about our partners.
"Pardon me" said Dr Jonathan I forget to mention one thing, at the hospital we have a counselling team that helps educate more about HIV/AIDS  and they also help those that fail to accept there HIV status, we also have HIV testing kits outside the hall on the right hand side,we have nurses there that have come to assist, feel free to stop by will camp at your school for three days make sure to make a date and visit us as it is free of charge thank you.
  "Let's go for testing" Lewisa said
  "Why, no I don't want to test, am not ready"
  "You know you don't have it Lu, unless you had unprotected sex with someone you are unsure of"
My eyes were wide open hearing her speak, it's as if this girl knew what happened yesterday, did she follow me, I think am just being delusional.
  "Alright I will test but not today on the third day of there stay"
  "Why! Let's just get over with it once and for all today"
  "There are alot of people in the queue right now, let's just wait for the last day"
  "Sure if you say so, let's go then to our dorm"
  "Let's go , I have something very important I want to tell you and I don't want you to be judgeee"
  "Obviously I will judge but what's it about"
  "I will tell you when we get there, I need matured advice don't be silly"
  "You sound to serious, I hope its not what am thinking about"
  "You've already started judging before even telling you Lewisa, eish I might reconsider telling you at this point"
  "Okay I have stopped, you know you can talk to me about anything"
When we reached the dorms,I had mixed emotions I dint know what to do whether to tell Lewisa or not,how do I approach Likando.
  "Let's go and take a bath then we can talk about it"said Lewisa sweetly with a smile
The cold shower made me feel better I felt more relaxed and comfortable to talk to Lewisa,I sat on my bed and she sat besides me with her pillow in her arms.
Yesterday I sniked out of the dorms to go and meet Likando in his office,I cam back early this morning at 05 when the bell rang alot were awake by then, others were cleaning and others were ironing there were alof of people in site and it was unnoticeable.
  "You sniked out wow, you know no one would believe the innocent Lu can have the audacity to do that"
  "Hey remember I said don't judge stick to that if you want to hear the rest of the story"
  "Alright alright  continue madam"
Likando asked me to go there so that I could wait up for him as he had alot of work to do, I helped him mark some books but by the time we finished it was very late for me to move and come back, he suggested I sleep in his office because if I step out I might get caught, I wasn't for the idea but he convinced me otherwise,it's as if he had planned it all out already.
  What do you mean,"as if he planned it all already"asked Lewisa
  "He had food in one of his drawers that he gave to me and a mattress"
  "That was a sign Lu,you should have found a way to leave immediately"
  "Shushi let me continue Lewisa"
We sat on the mattress, I asked him to leave as he didn't have to go through the trouble of sleeping on the floor,he refused to leave and insisted that it was okay he can handle it.
We talked for close to an hour and things started to change Likando started touching me everywhere it made me so uncomfortable that I kept moving every time he came closer to me, he told me it was only going to end in the kissing then we can sleep but with time I realised Likando unbuttoning my trousers and pulling down my pants I tried to resist but he was to powerful,he looked at me and reminded me that he loved me and that people who love each other do such things for each other, I still refused and told him I wasn't ready yet, he pleaded with me as if it were his last day on earth I still said no, he squeezed me arm and looked at me in the eyes, his eyes were no longer shiny there was anger all over his face, at that point I realised things had gotten to the worst.
  "You see what I was telling you about  men Lu, the only want one thing and once they get it they live"
I didn't respond to Lewisa I continued narrating what had happened.
Likando eventually managed to convince me in a sweet loving way, we has unprotected sex he didn't bother to use a condom on me,when we were done he handed me a pill and watched me drink it, I asked him what it was,his only answer was that it will remove all that has happened and keep me safe,we went to bed I was hoping he will comfort me but he turned and face the opposite direction as me.
Immediately I finished narrating the story my tears rowed down uncontrollably,I couldn't stop myself but just cry as it made me feel better, Lewisa waited for patiently to finish crying,when I was done I kept quite.
  "It's unfortunate that it has to happen like this Lu,I just hope you are not pregnant or HIV  positive"
With tears in my eyes I said "I hope am not"
  "what can  we do to find out more about Likando, maybe you should go talk to him Lu"
  "No I can't face him right now I was thinking I should write him a letter, I want clarity on a lot of things"
  "Yes that can work let's write him a letter tomorrow morning and give it to him, in the meantime rest I will come and wake you tomorrow morning goodnight Lu"
  "Goodnight Lewisa,please switch off the light now"
  "Alright sure I will do just that and please don't think about it to much, will figure it out by tomorrow"
  "I won't"
  "If you need anything wake me up"
  "Alright Lewisa let me now sleep, you don't stop talking messy"
