For the past week, after that morning where Louis had burst into tears at the mention of Eleanor being his girlfriend, Louis had been very distant. He didn't talk to Harry more, and when he did he found a way to get out of the conversation. Louis was now mainly talking to Eleanor and Zayn. It hurt Harry so much to know that Louis was drifting away. He needed to know why.
Harry would constantly text Louis but get very short answers. For example, today he had just texted Louis.
Harry: Louu
Harry: i miss you :(
Loubear 🐻: im eating, ttyl
Harry: ok
It stung. Normally Louis would always try to talk to Harry. Hell, he used to get in so much trouble for talking to Harry instead of doing what he was supposed to do. Now it seemed like he was avoiding him. Harry decided it was time to do something about it.
The next day at school he walked up to Louis' locker and dragged him into a supply closet.
"Harry! What the hell are you doing?!" Louis yelled.
"I'm figuring out why you're avoiding me," Harry said, "So tell me. Why are you avoiding me?"
'What are you talking about? I'm not avoiding you," Louis claimed.
"Oh yeah? You're not avoiding me? When's the last time we truly talked then?" Harry asked.
Louis thought for a minute, "Last week?"
"Exactly! Every time I try to have a conversation with you, you find a way to get out of it and you barely text me anymore," Harry said.
"I've been busy," Louis told him.
"Sure. And I'm the king of England. Now what happened that morning when I asked you about Eleanor? That's when you started pulling away," Harry asked.
"It wasn't because of the morning," Louis said.
"Then what was it?!" Harry asked, exasperated.
"I... don't know?" Louis said.
"Why can't you tell me?!" Harry exclaimed.
"Because I just can't, okay? Why can't you just accept that?!" Louis seemed like he was getting frustrated.
"Because it's affecting our friendship," Harry said.
"I'm sorry, ok? It's nothing you did," Louis said, and something flashed in his eyes. Harry couldn't tell if it was pain, regret, or that one look he gets when he's lying.
"Okay. But can we please be friends?" Harry asked.
Louis smiled, "Yes."
They joined their pinky fingers and then walked out. Unfortunately, they bumped into Niall on the way out. Niall's eyes widened when he saw them coming out of the closet. He turned to Harry, eyes asking the question Harry knew he got when he saw them. Harry shook his head.
Niall mouthed, "Hey guys, Harry I need to talk to you."
Louis furrowed his eyebrows but just said to Harry, "I'll see you later."
Harry nodded and followed Niall. Niall started ranting once they were out of earshot from Louis, "Harry why didn't you tell me? Were you two snogging in that closet? Did you confess your undying love for each other? Were you-"
"Niall. Shut up. None of that happened," Harry said.
"Then what happened?!" Niall asked.
"I dragged him in there to make him tell me why he was avoiding me," Harry explained.
"And did he tell you?" Niall asked curiously.
"No, he just said it wasn't anything that I did and that he can't tell me," Harry sighed.
"Oh. Well it seemed like you two had made up," Niall said.
"Yeah, we did. He said he's going to go back to talking to me," Harry replied.
Niall beamed, "Oh that's a good thing!"
Harry smiled, "Yeah, it is."
At lunch that day, Louis had stuck to his word. He started talking to Harry as well, not just Eleanor and Zayn. Harry had never been happier.
Then, later that night, Harry got a text from Louis.
Loubear 🐻: heyyy ;)
Harry: hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Loubear 🐻: hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Harry: how's it going
Loubear 🐻: goooooooodd
Harry: are you ok?
Loubear 🐻: yes im veryyyy okkkkk
Harry: what r u doing rn?
Loubear 🐻: drinkingg
Harry: on a school night?! where are your parents?
Loubear 🐻: out
Harry: your sisters?
Loubear 🐻: sleeping 😴
Harry: louuuu u need to stop
Loubear 🐻: noooo
Harry: ok that's it im coming over
Loubear 🐻: ok :))
Harry was concerned to say the least. Louis did drink at parties and he did sometimes drink some of his parents' alcohol when he'd had a bad week or something, but he never drank on a school night. He tried to avoid drinking, actually, because of his sisters.
He got his coat and stepped outside into the cool. Louis' house was a walkable distance from his house, that's another reason why they're such good friends.
He rushed over to Louis' house and knocked on the door. Louis opened the door with a bottle of beer in his hands. At least it's not something too strong.
"How much have you drank?" Harry asked.
"Like 3 or 4 bottles?" Louis slurred.
"Jesus," Harry mumbled, "Why did you even drink anyways?"
"Youuuu," Louis said and then giggled.
"Me?! What did I do?" Harry said.
"You look pretty when you're concerned," Louis said, "You look pretty all the time."
"Um, thanks?" Harry said, unsure of what to say, "Let's get you to bed."
"Okayyy," Louis agreed.
Harry helped him walk up the stairs to his room and got him in his bed under the covers.
"I loooooveeee you Harryyyy," Louis slurred.
"I love you too, Louis," Harry said, "Good night."
Louis grabbed his arm as he started to walk away, "Can you stay? Sleep with me?"
"Uh, sure," Harry said. He figured he might as well to make sure Louis wasn't tempted to drink anymore and to make sure that he got up in the morning for school.
He stripped to his boxers, thanking god that today was one of those days he was too lazy to change out of his school clothes because he could just wear that tomorrow.
He slid in bed next to Louis, "Good night Lou."
"Good night Hazza. I love you so much, more than you know," Louis said sleepily.
"Love you too, more than you know," Harry said to Louis, who was already sleeping, before he himself fell asleep with his arms wrapped around Louis.
