Ruanika's pov

“Ruanika, Ruanika! Where are you?” I flinche, snapping back to reality when the teacher nudges me.

“I-dont- I’m really sorry ma’am.” I shutter in a barely audible voice not being able to lift my gaze.

“You’ve been zoning out a lot these days. Pay attention or I’ll have to talk to your parents.” She warns and walks away.

Oh no not mamma pappa, the situation at home is already bad. I don't want to worsen it. I haven't been feeling myself lately.

The bell rang indicating lunch break. Grabbing my bottle, I took a sip and kept it back in. I have lost my appetite so I decided to use the washroom and walk around a little.

I was washing my hands after using the washroom when I heard someone calling my name. Turning around, I found Harika standing behind me.

“Hi?” I raise my brows. She was being unnaturally nice to me these days.

“Yeah-yeah, I don't have time to talk. Kian’s calling you. He’s at the swimming pool.” She says and she retreats.

A wave of relief washed over me. Finally, it’s been a month since I’ve heard from him. He used to meet me everyday but suddenly he stopped everything. Meeting, sending letters, coming to my house.

I even went to his section, Karate class but he was nowhere to be seen. When I inquired Kian’s cousin brother about him, all he said was- “he said that he’ll meet you later.”

I quickly dashed out of the building and made my way to the swimming pool. Kian is my best friend and the only true friend I have. I can't imagine a life without him.

When I reached, the happiness on my face was replaced with disappointment by not finding him there.

“Ki! Ki!” “Where are you? Please come out. Let's talk it out.” my yells echoed in the abandoned basement.

“I’m here on the other side.” It was his voice but a little rough. “What's wrong with your voice?”

“That's none of your concern.”

“Come out at least.” I plead.

“I’m neither coming out nor letting you come near me.”

“But…but why?” My voice was trembling.

I heard him chuckle, “who would ever wanna see that face of yours?” He scoffs.

“Ki, what's wrong? Why you-”

“Shut up! Just shut up Ruani. I don't wanna hear that annoying voice of yours.” He yells, making me flinch. He’s not my Ki, Kian would never raise his voice at me.

“Don't utter a single word and listen to me carefully.firstly, look how weak and vulnerable you’re. Can't even control your emotions.” He scoffs.

I gulp hard, trying my best not to break down.

“I know you like me, that's why you’ll do anything. You have no other friend except me, won't have one either. You can't talk to someone without having a panic attack. I don't like you, no one does.” Oh no, my insecurities. He did not-
