"AH! YOU MADE it." A smiling Donovan approached us just as the two double grand doors opened, revealing only me and Spade. I suggested that Jackson stay back at my place to overwatch the area, and Athena, in case Donovan tries to pull something.

He gave me a hug and patted me on the back. "Nice to meet you, nice to meet you." He greeted Spade with a curt nod and a handshake before retreating back to his normal spot, the head of the large round meeting table.

"Let us get started, shall we?" Donovan, still smiling but now sat, gestured for us to take a seat but we didn't bother to follow. We stood, side by side, ready if anything were to go wrong.

"Alright, suit yourself." He shrugged and took a sip out of his glass cup, filled to the brim with alcohol.

A few moments of silence passed. I took note on where exits were, there was only one other door which was a balcony that's open, and the door we came through. There was many wide windows as well.

The door we came through was now being guarded by two men, so that's out. No one was standing near the balcony, but Donovan's chair is so close to it, he has two guards side by side next to him so that might not work either.

I saw they were all armed with at least one gun, and with Donovan, I wasn't able to take note if he had any weaponry on him as because he was sitting, but I wouldn't put it past him.

"Oh?" Donovan finally said, he was searching the room, eyes darting between the duo. He was looking for something, or rather someone.

"And where's Athena?" My eyes darted up to his face at the mention of her name. How the fuck did he know her name? "What?" I said. I wasn't afraid of him. I was afraid for Athena.

"You heard me." He put his glass cup down, the smile long gone. "She's busy." I kept my responses to a minimum so I don't give out too much information. "Doing what exactly?" He started to grow defensive.

He was now scratching his chin, brows furrowed. "Why does it matter?" I dodged his question with another, hoping he'd get off my back about it. "It matters, Mr. Alvarez, because I wanted her. Not you and whoever this one is." He pointed at Spade, his tone laced with anger.

"Hey—" Spade tried to defend himself but I stopped him with a quick nudge of my shoulder to his, and quickly he went silent.

If he thinks I'm letting Athena within a hundred-mile radius of him, he's dumb.

"Let's not forget Donovan, that you wanted to meet with me." He was the one that reached out to me first when news spread, he wanted Athena and I as an alliance, and like I've mentioned, he could be a good asset towards me but he isn't all that.

He is rarely even half of me. Business wise, and physically wise.

"Oh, I haven't forgotten. But let's not forget that you're at my house, Mr. Alvarez. With my bodyguards." He had a look on his face as if to say he already won. But he hasn't won yet.
