Carolina POV
I couldn't believe Lukas and I both won! I'm not going to lie I'm not surprised Lukas did, but me? Hell, I was hoping third best. Lukas and I were now at the local bar, celebrating with the rest of the crowd.
Lukas snuck up behind me at the counter of the bar, and leaned into my ear, "Hey, wanna dance?"
His breath sent shivers down my body, confusing my heart with warmth and my body with goosebumps. I glanced up at him, and gave him a coy smile, nodding. Not wanting to have to fight the rowdy noise for him to hear me.
This wasn't the typical bar we found ourselves at, they seem to have a more eclectic style of music. Once Lukas and I found the dance floor the song had switched from a house song to a slow country song. Lukas gently grabbed my hands and brought them to my neck. As we swayed back and forth we studied each other. I wonder if Lukas was thinking about all the bumps in the road that had brought us together. Lukas squeezed my waist tighter bringing us closer together and I laid my head on his chest enjoying our moment.
Lukas kissed the top of my head, "You know have I told you tonight you're the prettiest girl in here."
I glanced up to find a smiling Lukas with a mischievous glint in his eye. "Oh yeah? I don't think you have said it tonight."
Lukas smirked, meaning I must've responded as he hoped. He leaned down to kiss right below my ear letting his husky voice carry right over me, "Oh darlin,' you will always be the prettiest girl in the room, every where you go my eyes will always find yours..." Lukas continued down my neck peppering kisses. "Not just because of your gorgeous body, but..." Lukas paused raking one hand up my body to land on my chest. "Your heart of gold," He continued moving his hand up to graze my throat, which I swear I thought I would stop breathing. To rest on my chin peering up at me. "And you're incredibly hard-working, hell of a rider."
I could feel the heat rise throughout my body. Compliments had a way of making me squirmy, and obligated always to compliment a person back. I opened my mouth to return the compliment but was halted by Lukas placing a finger to my lips. "I'm not done." I playfully rolled my eyes at the sexy smirk on his lips. "Will you please go on the road again with me this week to Oklahoma? You can barrel race again, and honestly, I'd love to have you by my side in my hometown."
Lukas's voice wavered slightly at the end. I knew what he was asking was serious. His hometown didn't hold all warm and fuzzy feelings for him, with everything that went down with his ma. I smiled sweetly, knowing I'd have a lot to explain to my own ma, but to hell with it. "I'd love to."
Lukas's face split into a mega grin and he laid a swift kiss on my lips and then picked me up and swung me around. "WooHoo."
That caused the crowd to steer us several questioning glances. However, I saw the recognition flicker in their eyes soon enough that they saw it was Lukas Underwood, and they all just carried on their way.
Once Lukas placed my feet back on the ground, our lips found each other again. I've never felt that my soul melted so easily with another, until now. Even with Cope I always felt like we loved each other deeply, but loving Lukas has something extra intense attached to it. I can already tell the highs feel like flying, but if this were to end in heartbreak, I think I would re-shatter the pieces that are held together in my heart with the lightest touch. Thinking of Cope still brings a slight twang of guilt, but I push it down. Tonight is for Lukas and I to celebrate our win and get lost in one another.
As we pull back slightly from one another, the song changes to an intense pop/rock song. Lukas turns me around and pushes us close to one another as we move to the beat of the song.
