It was sad how much you despised human contact. You loved analyzing every movement but whenever they'd come near you, you'd close your heart with a double lock. You vowed to be unattainable.

Lies are sharp as razors.

You learned it the hard way.

Confiding is an act you commit with someone, that, with time and affinities, earned your trust.

A friend, or so you thought.

You told her your secrets, most of them and she backstabbed you. Revealed your weak points to others and even turned some of your other fréquentations against you at the same time. She saw you as an unbreakable statue and smashed you down with venom. She hadn't ruined your life but for a child who had family issues at home, seeing their secrets like that hit a home run and destroyed you, little by little.

"Don't you know? They have money issues!"

"Ewwwww, I don't wanna be seen with the broke kid!"

"You smell. Can't you even buy soap?"

You were 8. You didn't understand where the hate came from. It took you time to realize she was guilty. Back then you didn't confront her. You already had your arm full : looking after your siblings, your parents unable to do their duty. You didn't had any energy to fight back, but you swore that never would you allow anyone to play you. Deprived from years of childhood and youth.

You swore to stay in your corner without giving up on humanity. You aided those in need but rejected any attempt to reach out to you.

That's what happened, in Dressrosa. You aided civilians in finding shelter while the fights ensued, dangerously close to the homes. Fighting back as well, swearing protections. Unbeknownst to you, you had caught the eye of Monkey D. Luffy.

So when this zealot of friendship arrived in your life, you answered with rejection. Would have been simple if he let it slide. He didn't. This idiotic insisted. And insisted.

Elected as quartermaster, you had aided Nami in her navigational duty since then. If something was to break or stop your path, you'd repair and take care of it. You saved the crew days of waste. Nami would thank you warmly every time.

Everything was going as planned. It was calm...

"(Y/N)!" Not for long with Luffy as a captain. "Yo!"

"What is it!?"

Despite it all, Luffy was the only one who truly earned your entire trust. Maybe because it was about his carefree attitude. Not taking much seriously but his friends. You'd always remember the warm tears you shed when he told you you were his friend.

It was funny to think about how far you've come. That you've found people to be yourself with and to believe in.

"I'm hungry!"

"Go bother Sanji about that, you moron!"
