Mariposa
As cliché as it sounds, I can see a bright light. It's almost blinding, yet I must reach it. I believe I am supposed to go to it in order to wake up. I've been trying to figure out how to wake up. I tried opening my eyes as wide as possible, sitting up, making sounds, anything I could think of, yet there had been no change.
I can hear people moving around me. I must wake up, before I waste away completely, before they give up on me. I can't let go before I even learn who I am. I can hear a man singing softly, "My loneliness is killing me, and I, I must confess, I still believe, when I'm not with you I lose my mind.."
"Baby... give me a sign if you can hear me. Anything. Even just the twitch of your finger. Please, baby...." I listen closely to the smooth voice, Willing myself to just move a bit, just enough that he will know I heard him. I feel a twitch and smile triumphantly, though I am not sure if it is shown on my face. Then I feel the pain. The agonizing, searing pain. This is the pain I felt with the loud noise, the pain I felt before everything faded away. I have to stay awake this time.
I can hear people rushing around me, the darkness turning into only the blinding light I saw, a ringing sound surrounding me. I can smell cleaning supplies and rubbing alcohol. I must be in a hospital. There is the earsplitting, beeping sound of the heart monitor. I can taste salt in my mouth, which I can predict is from saline. I must have an IV. I hope this wasn't too expensive, I don't even know If I have a job or insurance.
As my vision clears, I see a man staring in shock. Doctors are still dodging around each other, though they aren't moving as fast, they obstruct my vision. He seems to be around 5'6, though that's just an estimate. He has slight stubble and a sharp jawline, however, I can't get a clear view of his eyes. He must be the one who was talking to me, with the smooth voice. He's wearing a green hoodie with black, ripped jeans, red and white Converses, and a feminine-looking necklace around his neck.
My ears are still ringing, I can't understand anyone. Doctors are trying to talk to me, yet I can't comprehend their words. That man Is the only one standing still. My head is throbbing as if it had been hit by a train, which is a lot of pain for one little space. I can't speak, as It hurts to try, so I am reaching out to the man as best as I can while connected to all these machines.
I have an IV in my right arm, which is at least nice because I am left-handed. I'm not sure how I know that. I have all the heart monitor stuff on me as well. There seem to be bandages under the paper gown they put me in. I can't help but wonder which doctor changed me. do they think I'm attractive? Am I attractive?
