"Phoenix!" Percy called.
"What?" Phoenix replied, running out of her bathroom to see Percy and Grover sitting on her floor next to the window doing homework.
"Can you help me with this problem?"
"One minute," Phoenix sighed as she finished brushing her hair. "I don't see why you can't get a tutor. A teacher would be able to help you much more."
"Like Mrs. Dodds?" Percy asked, trying to get Phoenix to slip up and tell the truth.
"No, Percy, I mean a teacher that works here," Phoenix replied, not falling for it.
"Yeah!" Grover exclaimed nervously. "There is no Mrs. Dodds here. Who's she? Never heard of her!"
"C'mon guys," Percy sighed. "I know you guys know who I'm talking about. We'd literally sit here and complain about her."
Phoenix shrugged as she walked over and sat next to her friends. "Sorry, Perce, I've never heard of her."
He sighed and glanced out the window as the rain got heavier.
"Well," Grover yawned, closing his notebook. "I finished my homework, I'm going to go back to my dorm and sleep."
"Okay," Phoenix smiled. "Goodnight Grover!"
"Goodnight Phoenix, Goodnight Percy."
"Goodnight."
Grover left and went to his room while Phoenix helped Percy with his homework.
Suddenly the lightning flashed brightly and the power went out.
"Well, I guess we don't have to do homework anymore," Percy shrugged.
"I have flashlights," Phoenix laughed.
"You do?"
Phoenix wanted to tell him that she was the daughter of Apollo so of course she'd have lights but instead, she just said, "Yup!"
Percy sighed, "Of course you do."
Exactly! Phoenix thought.
Percy sighed again and fell backward, lying on the ground, "I don't want to do my homework," he muttered with a yawn.
"Okay," She nodded laying down next to him.
"So," Percy said. "Do you live close to Yancy?"
"Yeah, my mom lives close by."
"Your dad?"
"He lives in Florida," Phoenix replied. She told everyone that as it was The Sunshine State.
"Do you have any siblings?"
Phoenix nodded even though Percy couldn't see her. Siblings were a hard subject for her.
"I have a sister, she's five, her name is Charlie." Phoenix shifted. "And my little brother Noah, he um, died last year, he's nine.
"Fuck, I'm sorry," Percy said. "I shouldn't have brought that up."
"No, it's okay. You didn't know."
There was a weird moment of silence.
"Do you have any siblings?"
"No."
Phoenix cleared her throat, "Maybe we should get back to our homework," She said sitting up.
"Yeah," Percy nodded sitting up after her.
Phoenix grabbed Percy's worksheet and a pencil, "Okay so-"
There was a loud crash of thunder and a bright strike of lightning and the window Percy and Phoenix were sitting under shattered.
