The Queen Anne's Revenge responded to Percy's every command. He knew which ropes to hoist, which sails to raise, which direction to steer. They plowed through the waves at what Percy figured was about ten knots. Percy even understood how fast that was. For a sailing ship, pretty damn fast.
Sometime after midnight, Phoenix came up on deck. They were just passing a smoking volcano island. The sea bubbled and steamed around the shore.
"One of the forges of Hephaestus," Phoenix said. "Where he makes his metal monsters."
"Like the bronze bulls?"
She nodded. "Go around. Far around."
Percy didn't need to be told twice. They steered clear of the island, and soon it was just a red patch of haze behind us.
Percy looked at Phoenix. They sat on the deck, watching the Hercules constellation rise in the night sky.
"So why does Aphrodite give you random clothes sometimes?" Percy asked.
"I actually don't know," Phoenix shrugged. "I just always assumed it was because me and Silena are friends."
"Maybe it's something more," Percy suggested.
"Maybe," Phoenix replied. "I've never really thought about it."
"Also about was Circe said earlier, don't listen to her Phee," Percy said. "You are beautiful and she shouldn't tell you otherwise."
"Thank you Percy," Phoenix was praying to Artemis that the moonlight didn't show illuminate to blood rushing into her cheeks.
"Well I um-" Percy stuttered, praying about the same thing.
"Hey guys!" Annabeth said walking on the deck with the two blondes.
Phoenix cleared her throat. "Hi Annabeth."
"Go below," Annabeth told Percy. "You need some rest."
Percy nodded and walked downstairs.
"You are so oblivious," Annabeth laughed shaking her head.
"Okay, I get that I'm blonde but you got to stop saying that."
"Hey there are very many blondes who were children of Athena, that's just a stupid stereotype."
"I know, I know," Phoenix nodded, being told that many times.
"Anyways, you and Percy," Annabeth grinned.
"We talked," Phoenix nodded.
"And he called you beautiful!" Annabeth exclaimed.
"Jeez Annabeth, maybe you need your own boyfriend."
"Maybe... or you guys would make a cute couple!"
"Okay," Phoenix sighed. "I'm going to be now."
"Okay, goodnight Phoenix!" Annabeth laughed.

"Ah!" Percy sat bolt upright in his hammock.
Phoenix was shaking him. "Percy, you were having a nightmare. You need to get up."
"Wh-what is it?" Percy rubbed his eyes. "What's wrong?"
"Land," she said. "We're approaching the island of the Sirens."
Phoenix could barely make out the island ahead of us-just a dark spot in the mist.
"I want you to do me a favor," Annabeth said walking downstairs. "The Sirens ... we'll be in range of their singing soon."
Percy remembered stories about the Sirens. They sang so sweetly their voices enchanted sailors and lured them to their death.
