Chapter Ten: The Pursuit

Your kunai sank into the bark of a towering tree as you propelled yourself forwards once more, your weapon snapping back to you with a firm pull as you soared through the air, sending the kunai out into another tree as you continued to swing through the destroyed forest. The sounds of booming up ahead only urged you to speed up your chase, reminding you that you weren't going fast enough. Even with the swifter approach with your grappling, it proved fruitless against your adversary.

Solar light hovered just behind you, the light-bearer following close as she flew after you and the enemy you chased. As you swung, Illari flew, both of you having to exert quite a bit of effort in order to keep up.

Moments before hand, your encounter with the discovered Titan spiralled out of control so very quickly. It broke free of the facility and began to move almost immediately towards a distant city. With no way to contact anyone for help, you both instinctively gave chase.

Though, killing something larger than the Titan in Paris was something you weren't even sure you were able to do. Distract it, sure. Delay it, doable. But to end it?

Just the two of you?

The last team needed a cryobomb, something that you didn't have access to.

Illari and Y/N against the tallest Titan that you had ever seen.

What could possibly go wrong?

Well, the answer was just about everything.

"Y/N, what's our plan?! That thing is going to reach the city and we've barely made a scratch on it!" Illari shouted from behind you as the pair of you continued to move through the forest. You could just about make out the small burn marks around its legs, though they were so insignificant that you two may as well not have even attacked at all.

"Fuck if I know, I didn't exactly have a plan for something like this!" You swung from another tree, realising that you were beginning to run out of trees to swing from as it moved into the green fields. "Needless to say, we've got to distract it! It's fucking gigantic, someone will see this and it'll spread like wildfire! We just need to distract it until backup arrives!"

Illari flew closer to you, now keeping up with your speed.

"How exactly do we intend on distracting it, and how is anyone going to contact the authorities? Are you forgetting about the communication jammer?" She questioned aloud, a growl of frustration leaving you as you swung from another tree.

"Stop poking holes in my plan with logic!" You retaliated, reaching another branch as you placed both of your hands onto it before landing properly, springing off of it with all your might as you went flying even faster. Yanking the kunai, you twirled the chain in midair before launching it towards the Titan.

Only for the Kunai to clink off of its metallic armour.

Your eyes widened in surprise as you began to plummet, the surprise slowly turning into shock as you looked down at the ground below you. Being so high up, falling at such a speed and height wasn't going to end well, the wind slapping you in the face and keeping the air inside your lungs. A force grasped you, your momentum now flying straight forwards again. You looked to your side, Illari's glowing eyes facing forwards as she held you in her arms.

"Metal was thicker than you were expecting?" She inquired rhetorically, a small nod was your response as you pulled the chain towards you, catching the kunai with the other hand as you began to re-wrap it around your arm.

"Ever so slightly," you responded as you ran a hand through your hair, panting ever so slightly as you slowly recovered from the quick near death experience. "Not all of us can just, you know, fly!"
