Chapter Twenty-Four: Resistance

A dragon.

He shot out a dragon.

Specifically twin dragons.

You have witnessed some extraordinary things in your time. A girl wielding the power of the sun, a talking gorilla, one of the last German crusaders, a null sector Titan, a solar eclipse here and there, some cool comets. Hell, you'd even died and came back from an afterlife you can't remember anything about.

But dragons? No, that was certainly a new one.

You didn't even have time to fully marvel at the sight as Genji instructed you to jump with him, launching your kunai out into a nearby building as you leapt down with your arm clutched around Asa tightly, the other holding the chain as you swung yourself down. You could feel her gripping on for dear life, the rush of emotions she must be enduring was entirely incomprehensible to you, having been kidnapped and now jumping out of a excessively high building, the human body was not constructed to cope with this much stress. Your grip on her didn't falter for a single moment, holding onto as if she were your own mother.

You slowed your descent as your feet eventually touched the ground, bodies of scattered unconscious Hashimoto members littering the area with countless weapons laying on the ground. It was a mess down here, blood covering what few statues remained standing, a once white plaza now cracked and ruined, scorch marks left across almost every surface evidently from where lightning had struck. It looked as if a cataclysm had befallen this place.

Genji landed just behind you, surprisingly making very little noise, the only thing giving him away was the low sounds of his cybernetic body moving as he rose to his full height, the unconscious man still slung over his shoulder. You turned to face him as your kunai zipped back into its sheath, your eyes analysing your surroundings quickly before returning to the cyborg.

Though before you could even speak, Kiriko and Hanzo appeared next to you in a blue mist, startling you as your eyes widened and you clenched your fist ready to strike. Kiriko let go of Hanzo's arm before raising her hands as if to surrender.

"Same side, same side!" She yelled as you paused just as you went to swing at the duo. You looked back up at the opening at the top of the Japanese building as confusion befell you, your attention slowly falling down as if to exaggerate the distance in your mind before meeting Kiriko's gaze again.

"I... what?" You questioned what you had just seen, you thought that her abilities stopped at magical healing paper and a glowing kitsune, but apparently there was more to these three's tale considering your two friends just materialised in front of you.

"Later!" Hanzo yelled, spinning on the spot before drawing an arrow, the tip of the arrow splitting off into several smaller pieces that orbited the head. The archer released the arrow as it flew into the entrance of the stronghold, colliding with a wall next to the stairwell as several blue arrows ricocheted up the stairs. From where you stood, you could hear their screams echo out into the night. "Our time is running short, push onwards!"

"With haste!" Genji agreed, loud footsteps flooding the area as unfollowable chatter accompanied them, the realisation that the entire clan was about to fall down onto you was enough to kick you back into action. Countless members began to flood out of the building and flooded into the courtyard, their weapons raised, charging straight towards you all with a howling ferocity. Now unguided, they would do whatever they thought was right. And in this moment, the correct choice dictated the death of you all.

You turned on your heel and began to sprint off as a group, Hanzo and Kiriko taking the lead with their weapons drawn, engaging with whomever got too close. One foot after the other, you pressed on as a warzone quickly broke out around you, arrows and kunais flying everywhere with no signs of stopping anytime soon. Though you were fast, the weakened Asa could barely keep up with your movement or anyone else in the group for that matter, her struggles audible over the ensuing combat and yelling.
