Chapter one: Flirty Jerk

Another day, another shoulder shove mixed with a smirk from Billy I don't think I'll ever understand him.

"See you later, doll" he said before walking off. Nancy, Natasha, Jonathan, Christopher and Steve always ended up coming by too late afterward, they help pick up my belongings, "Kate, you shouldn't let him do this to you." She said in a stern tone.
I rolled my eyes, "Nanc, we may have our popular moments but there is no point in trying to stop him" giving me my items they picked up, I stuffed them into my bag then stood up.

"It's not just about our popularity, it's the fact he lets it get to his head but that doesn't mean you should let him get into your head." He wraps his arms around me laying his head on my shoulder. "I get that steve but.. he has always seemed like.. like an arrogant prick!" Sighing I looked up at steve, he looked down at me concerned. "Anyways, where's jake and carol?" Steve stretched the back of his neck, "they wanted 'alone' time, if you know what I mean"

"Great, so they are skipping again?" We began walking to our lockers. Nancy spoke up, "I'm afraid so" opening mine I scrunched up my face while Jon asked a question, "Will they ever just I don't know, go to class instead of skipping all the time? I may not have a lot of room to talk but still" We laughed a bit, "Not sure, but we should get going.." Nancy and Jonathan walked off in a different direction holding hands while Steve and I went to our class, he opened the door for me, I walked in and he followed, we sat near the back.

Not long after other students came into the classroom, "Hey kate—" before steve finished talking he came strutting in, the whole room fell silent. He went to sit behind me - like always, he seemed to love bothering me. "Do you think you could.. never mind I'll ask later.." Looking over at steve he seemed upset, I put my hand on his shoulder to try to comfort him when I did he smiled at me, but I felt a pair of eyes staring a hole in the back of our heads.

I looked back, "do you want something?" He didn't say anything for a second he just looked me up and down slowly, "yeah, I do want something actually.." He licked his bottom lip.

Before he could say anything else I turned back to the front looking at the teacher embarrassed knowing what he was going to say, the teacher started talking about some project we were going to start next week time had pass, "Remember our 4 person project will start next week and I'll pick the groups, class dismissed!"

As soon as the last part was said everyone groaned rushing out of the class except for steve slowly picking up his books, I waited for him.

We walked to our lockers putting our things away, "what were you going to ask in class?" He looked down to his shoes. "Well.. I was wondering if you would like to go to my practice?" I smiled, "I don't like the smell of sweat but.."

He looked up at me nervously, "for you? of course I'll go!" He smiled, "Great! I mean, uhh thank you." Giggling at his response, I put my hand on his shoulder. "No need to thank me, what are friends for?"

He was silent for a second, "Right, friends.." He was rambling on about a Halloween party happening later tonight, but I wasn't paying much attention because Billy came walking through like always he flashed me a smile I smiled back before I looked at Steve again. "We can go together, if you want?" I mumbled.

"Yeah sounds cool, I can take you so you don't have to waist money on gas." We started walking to the cafeteria, "Doesn't sound bad but I'll return the favor next time we go somewhere." I seen mike sitting with his group, I walked over to the 'loser' table as they called it "I'll be right back, save me a seat at our spot." He nods as I left, "Hey mikey"

They all look at me while he smiled, "Hey y/n" I see familiar faces, "Hey El & M!" They looked up at me saying 'hey!' in union. "Where's Eddie?" They shrugged, "Someone say my name?" I turn around to see him smiling at me, "hello miss y/n" He bowed down I smiled at him as he walked to the table sitting in his spot, "I came over to tell y'all I won't be able to babysit you cause I'm going to a party but I can take y'all to my house since that's were you all wanted to start the night"

"Awh, but it's always fun with you there" I looked over to Dustin pouting I walked over to him giving him a gentle hug, they all shook their heads in agreement, "Are you still coming over to hangout with me this weekend?" I looked over at her smiling, "Of course max! We haven't done that in awhile."

Mike looked at me concerned, "I don't think you should—" El put her hand over his mouth. "Have fun y/n!" We laughed, "Mike, let her she's not gonna get hurt if that's what you're worried about. Max will be with her, trust her a little?" He sighed, "Fine.."

I smiled, "as much as I'd love to stay and chat with my favorite people.." Will gave me a smile as I pat his head, "I have to go back to Steve he's waiting for me, but I will pick up my walky if you need me later on, okay?" They said their goodbyes as I left I started thinking about last Halloween how will ended up being a spy for the mindflyer but things have calmed down since el closed the gate, as I come back to reality someone tried to trip me but I balanced myself stepping over their shoes.

"Oh my, I'm so sorry y/n" looking at the ground the foot belonged to Tina, "Go find someone that's willing to give you their attention to bother because you're wasting my time."

She grit her teeth as I left the people at her table laughed at her telling her 'I told you so' I couldn't help but smile as I reached steve, he smiled at me I sat next to him while our friends laughed.

The rest of the day went on, Steve had practice during our last class but luckily for us Mr.Whitlock never really payed attention who was in class or not. He usually slept and let us do our own thing.

I was sitting on the middle row on the bleachers, watching the game billy was trying to get into steve's head, "Harrington? Everyone used to tell me how you used to rule school" shoving against him he said "King steve, they used to call you, right?" He whispered to were only steve could hear, "Then you turned to a bitch over two girls. Too bad neither of them wants you." Steve sighed, "Maybe you shouldn't listen to everything you hear. Can we just play the damn game." He pushed Steve to the ground running up to the hoop, he made it into the basket.

He looked over at me then winked, I rushed over to Steve knowing he was embarrassed I helped him up.
"Sorry you had to see that" he looked down embarrassed, "hey you didn't do bad, no need to apologize" he smiled, I just remembered I promised the kids I'd drive them to my house.

"Dang it, hey I have to go but you'll pick me up about 7ish, right?" I hugged him, "Of course, taking the kids to your house? I was wondering why you didn't drive your small car today" I sighed, we walked out of the gym. "Yeah, they have Halloween plans and I think they are waiting for me.." pointing towards my van I see the gang, "you should go then, see you later"

"Bye, see you later" I let him go then walked over to my car, "Y'all ready?" I looked over to max, "I need to talk to Billy real quick then we can go." I nod, she went back into the school I let the kids into my van while I waited outside, afew seconds later billy came walking out with a nervous max.

"Fuck, why is he coming over?" I sighed, "Mike language!" He laughed. "Chill down, it's just a word" Before I could even argue billy arrived, "Wheeler." He looked me up and down licking his lips, "Hargrove." I looked up at him. Max walked over to me getting into the van whispering 'I'm sorry' in a apologetic tone.
