Chapter 7: A little too sweet for his liking

It had been a nearly a month since the date with Mike, everything with him seemed better each time they'd see each other. From their little talks at the coffee shop to his dorky jokes when they went for lunch and the walks home to her apartment which he insisted on doing.

Not that she minded much...actually she didn't mind at all.

The more she saw Mike the more giddy she got, making her think more then once that it was all too good to be true. Everything was just right, well everything expect Peter who had more or less avoided her since that faithful night with a small "hi and how you doing?." Here and there.

Lucy sighed in frustration as she thought of him. She huffed for the 100th time as she coloured the little icing petals for her fairy cakes that she was making for the kids at kindergarten. The house phone began to ring making her jump a little before placing her decorations on the counter to grabbed the phone.

"Hello?" She spoke while licking the icing off her fingers.

"Hi sweetie, how are you?"

"Mom...hey, I'm fine. You?" Lucy sighed, happy to hear her mothers voice.

"Wonderful as always hun, I miss you though."

Lucy gave a smile before smiling. "I know, I miss you too mom. So? Do you need anything?."

"Well, me and your father are going to be in town, you know your father. Lost his glasses aga-."

"I haven't lost them...there just somewhere I don't know god dammit!" Her father yelled from the background as he interrupted her mother, who in return let out a frustrated groan.

"As I was saying. Your father has lost his reading glasses again which is why will be in the area, so me and your father can come round for dinner, it'll be nice to see you and Peter....is he there hun?" Lucy went quiet for a second or two before answering.

".....No....he's at work, he'll be back for dinner, y'know he wouldn't miss seeing you guys, what time you guys coming?" She spoke changing the conversation.

"Oh...About six?, you know what the traffic's like round there, I don't know how you stand it. Well I'd better go. Your fathers turning the house upside down...Phil, I just cleaned in there!! Agrhhh, will see you later, give Peter my love."

"I will, see you later."

She placed the phone back on the counter as she gave off a distant stare before running her hands over her face as she thought of Peter, she couldn't understand why he was being like he was. But what she did know was that this had to be sorted.

...............................................................................

"If you stab that chicken any harder you gonna put a dent in the table." Ben declared as he watched Peter basically destroy his chicken salad as other people in the café threw glances towards there table.

"Huh?" Peter replied absently as he looked up from his dinner.

"Are you ok man?" Ben asked as he looked Peter in the eye. "Why do you keep asking me that, I'm fine."

"Yeah sure, that's way you've had that frown on your face for the last couple of weeks...Look. You need to talk to her Peter, this is Lucy we are talking about. Your being stupid, hope you know that."
