Chapter 10: Birthday Cake Surprise!!
Lucy awoke to the sound of morning traffic, she sat up slowly before turning to her calendar smiling brightly at the date which was circled repeatedly with pink high lighter.
Kicking the blankets off in a hurry she skipped out of her room gleefully while humming happy birthday to her self. Some may think it's silly to get excited over birthdays as an adult, she knew she was no child but it was still her day and by god she was gonna enjoy it.
She ran into the kitchen expecting to find Peter eating his breakfast ready to wish her happy birthday only to find the kitchen empty.
She stood there for a second trying to listen out for him before peering down the hallway to do the same, hearing nothing. Meaning he had already left for the day. Not so much as a happy birthday.
She knew that it was still early, he didn't usually leave till exactly the right time or he'd let her know. But then they hadn't really spoken much the last couple of months she reminded herself sadly.
Whenever her birthday came along Peter usually went all out, a mountain of breakfast and cake and the famous list of why she was the best friend ever that was written by his thirteen year old self which had been routine all these years together at the beginning of every morning on her birthday.
She sighed to herself sadly, realising it clearly wasn't happening this year due to lack of communication in the resent months of their lives.
Ever since that afternoon when passing her that box she had hardly seen him, less spoke to him. She knew something was up for sure. Adding how secretive he had been since that fateful evening.
She wanted the old Peter back, she missed him dearly, her cheery mood started to fall as she slowly moved back to the kitchen to make some toast.
Suddenly it didn't really feel like her birthday, if anything she felt lonely.
She put her toast on a plate ready to devour when the door went, thinking it was the mailman she slowly moved to the front door as the knocking came again.
"I'm coming!" She huffed making her way to the door, what she found on the other side of the door was unexpected. She stood shocked at the delivery man holding the biggest bunch of giant white and pink daisies she had ever seen wrapped in pretty pink paper and bow.
"Are you Miss Gabe?"
"Yes, that's me." She spoke breathless as he passed them to her.
He smiled before wishing her happy birthday and leaving, she quickly closed the door as she moved back down to the kitchen staring at the beautiful combination in her hands before placing them on the counter as she looked for a card.
She quickly found it, reading the note that was written.
(With all my love...Happy Birthday x)
She read it over and over again with glee. "Aww these must be from Mike. How did he know I love these?" She thought as she smelt them blissfully, stroking the petals. She quickly put them in water giving them one last glance before finishing her toast to get ready for the day knowing Mike was coming to get her to pick her parents up for dinner.
Just a small get together but that was fine by her. She looked at herself in the mirror down at her blue dress she had treated herself to which fitted nice enough as she decided to do her hair curly which she knew Mike loved.
Hearing the door once more she gave herself one last look before heading to the door to find Mike on the other side with both hands behind he back as he smiled taking he in.
