Chapter 8: Who doesn't love Cupcakes?
The silence in the room seemed to make the noise outside more noticeable, all eyes laid on Mike with his hand still stretched out waiting for her father to meet him halfway, Lucy looked between her parents and Peter before returning to Mike’s face as he kept his eyes on her father. She was about to break the overpowering silence when her father finally did the honours.
“Lucy didn’t mention you on the phone…it would have been nice to know Luce.” Phil spoke calmly as he went to shake his hand firmly giving him a small smile. Lucy tried to speak again but Mike seemed too quick for her as he smiled pleasantly towards her father.
“I can take the blame for that Sir, we agreed to tell you in person…Right Luce?” He spoke looking at Lucy to catch on as she smiled nodding rapidly as finally took her chance to speak.
“Oh isn’t he sweet Phil, such a gentleman…why are we still standing in the hallway, Peter be a darling and get an extra chair.” Gabby spoke grabbing on to Mike’s arm dragging him to the dining table.
“I hope I’m not interrupting anything.” Mike spoke looking back to Lucy.
“Oh don’t be silly dear, we want to hear all about you. Right boys.”
Her mother spoke not really caring for a reply. Phil shook his head at his wife making his way back towards the table while Peter sulked silently dragging the chair across the floor towards Mike as Lucy followed closely behind beaming with relief at the sudden interaction as her mother began questioning like some crazed reporter.
“So?...Tell us how you met?.....”

Peter looked behind watching the clock for 100th time that night wishing the night would end, he took a silent breath as he looked back around the table at the “happy” atmosphere.
“How the hell can Phil and Gabby like this fool?” He asked himself watching their faces around the table. Turns out both Phil and Mike worshiped the same football team, which automatically put him in Phil’s good books. His eyes narrowed at Lucy’s and Gabby’s laughter, of course Gabby was star struck by him. He was the prefect gentlemen making him the perfect son in law.
Peter rolled his eyes to himself, keeping the peace for Lucy’s sake. “Yeah right….stupid southern charm.” He thought to himself before excusing himself to the restroom. “I’ll be back in a minute.”
Lucy watched him disappear around the corner feeling a bit upset by his behaviour.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a soft pat on her knee, she looked up to find her father giving her a small encouraging smile before rejoining the conversation. Lucy looked at her father for second more before returning herself to0o the conversation.
The night went on a lot better then she first thought, she thanked god that her parents loved Mike. Not that, that was hard. Mike was too sweet for his own good, which didn’t bother her naturally.
“Oh sweetheart, it was so nice seeing you two and Mike you have been wonderful. I hope to hear off you two soon.”
