Chapter 9: Not Now, Not ever
The sound of cheerful screams and laughter laid in the background as Lucy washed the paint brushes watching the pre schoolers play, giving them a little smile as they ran by.
“Hey Luce, you going for lunch soon, We can eat in the lunch room.” Anna asked as she picked up a teddy bear off the floor before placing it in one of the toy boxes.
“Yeah sure, in a couple of minutes. Just need to finish washing these up, I’ll meet you in the staff room.”
“Kay sweetie.” She yelled giddily running along making Lucy laugh in amusement.
“So how is everything in the happy ever world of Mike and Lucy huh?....how long you two been dating now…..7 months right?” Anna asked absently staring at her cheese sub.
“Yeah it’s going great, still as charming as ever…he made us dinner at his place the other night, it was lovely.”
“I wonder what was for desert?” Anna teased watching Lucy squirm with annoyance.
“ANNA!” She squeaked looking round to see if anyone had heard. “I’m only joking Luce calm down, anyway you still getting grief off Peter?” She asked looking Lucy in the face giggling.
“Honestly…he seems different, way different. If he isn’t at work he hardly leaves his room, y’know he hasn’t met up with any of those women for the last month or so…I actual think he’s settling down a bit, well I hope that’s why he’s acting the way he is.”
“Peter settling down…Lucy is this the same Peter we’re talking about?…your not joking.” She watched in disbelief as Lucy shook her head looking out towards the play ground.
“Is it weird that I’m worried about him, I know I should be happy that he’s calming down but. I feel like he’s hiding something from me, like he's holding back. It’s just he tells me everything…he always has. Since I can remember, I can’t help but think…this is my fault.”
She confessed rubbing the button on her shirt as Anna let out a sigh.
“Lucy, you can’t blame yourself for Peter’s actions. He’s a grown man...try to look at this as a positive, this way he’s not acting like jerk towards your relationship which leaves more time for you to get extra close to Mikey boy. Y’know.” She as she nudged her making her smile relieving a little worry.
Anna was about to tease her some more when suddenly remebering. She looked to her side making herself squealed with pure delight.
“That reminds me, seeing as your birthday is coming up next month. I got you something both you and Mike will enjoy.” Anna spoke with a hint of mischief.
Lucy watched her friend run off for a couple of seconds before returning with a large cream lace box, Lucy looked at her for a moment then watched her place the box on her lap.
“From me to you, it’ll look great on you.”
