"Wow! She owns a chunk of land and maintains it well," a man with green eyes, dirty blonde hair slicked back wearing a purple Tee shirt with jeans.
"I agree with Sean, this place is gorgeous!" Luke said as he bounced on the soles of his feet from the surge of energy he had from drinking an energy drink.
Once they were all grouped together they started to make their way to the main house till they heard shouting in the distance. Looking at one another, they had no idea how to proceed as it would be rude to not greet the owner yet the commotion sounded like they could use some help.
"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!" a woman shouted causing the men to rush to the sound of her voice. Upon reaching her, Northa and Silas noticed it was Audrey standing near the barn they were going to help fix as her sight was set on the roof. Puzzled, the group shortened the distance till they were only a few feet behind the woman.
"Joshua Nolans, Greg Mccarthy, and Bobby Jones, you boys get your asses down here right this second! It is dangerous! I already have people coming to help fix the barn who are more capable than some high schoolers who think they know it all!" Audrey shouted at the three young men on said barn with tool belts on.
"Ah, come on Miss Em, why you calling them city boys who'd dontin but charge ya out the asses. We owe you for all you've done fer us. This'll be a piece of cake!" Bobby yelled down as he squinted his eyes at the group of men approaching Miss Em without her knowledge. "Joshua, Greg do ya know them folks?" he asked quietly so he didn't startle Miss Em since she startles easily.
"I don't reckon I recognize them. Should we go down and make sure Miss Em is alright?" Joshua asked as he peered down to the group.
"Fuck it, I'm going down to see. You both stay here cuz if we go down together, there's a high chance we might not be let back up here to help with repairin," Greg said as he made his way to the ladder.
"FINALLY! Now Joshua and Bobby you get your asses down here too!" Audrey ordered as she tapped her foot on the ground. The men behind her were amused at her antics trying to get the young men down. She almost sounds like their mother, no, closer to an aunt who's worried about their well-being.
Once Greg made his way down he strutted straight for Miss Em while the other two on the roof crossed their arms while glaring down. Finally reaching the woman who was an angel in the county's eyes, he pulled her behind him which caught her off guard and had her stumbling behind him.
"Greg, what in the world is your problem?" Audrey asked, baffled till she noticed the large group of men that was previously right behind her. Pure terror took over her as her right hand started to shake.
"Who the fuck are you?" Greg boldly asked as he kept Audrey behind him. This surprised the men as they didn't expect such an action to occur. North wasn't lying about her being terrified of something otherwise she wouldn't have reacted like this.
"Miss Em, I was here yesterday with my brother Silas," North said as he stepped forward causing Greg to glare at him trying to seem intimidating.
"Oh yes, I am sorry I didn't realize it was that time already. I was going to greet you all but found these three buffoons thinking they alone could help repair the damages," just as she finished speaking they all heard a chainsaw being started.
"GOD DAMNIT, BOBBY TURN THAT BLASTED TOOL OFF THIS FUCKING SECOND! I don't need to explain to your mama the reasoning of you being admitted to the hospital for being a reckless fool!" Audrey shouted as she whirled around and started for the ladder. One moment she was making her way, the next she was scooped up into Greg's arms. "Damn it boy, put me down!"
"No can do Miss Em. You know the rules, you aren't allowed on roofs after what happened last time," Greg scolded as he started to walk back toward the main house. "Besides we owe you for rescuing our sorry asses from killing ourselves when we snuck up here during spring break. You know we have helped doing maintenance around town. Carl taught us how to fix roofs. Just go inside and leave this to the men," he said as he set her down on her porch rocking chair.
"I am older than you! You are supposed to listen to me," Audrey began as she went to stand again.
"MISS EM! Think about your health. We know what we are doing and those city boys are here and can help. The more there are, the faster your barn gets fixed. Please, Miss Em, we don't want to see you in that predicament again," Greg pleaded as he pushed down on her shoulder to get her seated before kneeling in front of her.
Starring in his eyes, she saw his resolution in helping her. Looking around she noticed the majority of the group of men had already joined Joshua and Bobby in cutting the tree out of the barn. Only five members were standing a short distance from her. Returning her gaze back to Greg she released a breath and proceeded to say, "Fine, but if those men tell you no or to take a break you boys better listen. Your mamas will have my hide if something happens to any of you."
"I promise we will be safe," Greg promised with a wide smile before getting up and making his way back to the barn.
