2K12: Morning bonding time

April finds out about Mikey's music after an unexpected interaction.

It was around 6:30 in the morning, and Mikey was unexpectedly up earlier than usual. He went downstairs and made everyone breakfast. Everyone else was asleep, well, almost everyone. Even though Leo was already out of his coma, Raph still kept a vigilant eye on him while he slept. Mikey grabbed Ice Cream Kitty out of the freezer and started on the pancakes.

"Good morning, Ice Cream Kitty. Are you ready for breakfast?" He asked as he grabbed her out of the freezer and put her into a bowl with ice.

"Meow."

Mikey made the batter and turned on the cooker. He made the pancakes and put them in the microwave to stay warm. He then grabbed his viola and went outside with Ice Cream Kitty.

April woke up not so long after and, as always, went to check up on the guys. She went to check on Donnie first. She found him asleep in an actual bed instead of his lap. Then she went to go check on Casey. He was asleep in his messy room, snoring and dribbling. She rolled her eyes and went to check on Raph and Leo. They were sound asleep on Leo's bed. April awed quietly and took a quick photo for later, then she went to go check on Mikey.

When she reached the young turtles room, she realised that he wasn't in his room. She went downstairs, thinking that he was making breakfast for them. But she was surprised to see that he wasn't there either.

All she found was a note on the fridge that said 'Breakfast in the microwave. I made pancakes. See you later, Mikey 😊.' She smiled and grabbed a pancake to go. Then she walked to the living room. As she was eating, she heard beautiful music coming from outside. She looked out the window and was shocked to see Mikey playing viola on top of the hill.

She immediately snuck outside to take a closer look and low and behold, Mikey playing viola with his headphones on. He finished his first song, then started to play perfect by Ed Sheeran.

She was taken aback by how magnificent he was playing. It brought a tear to her eye as he played his little heart out. He played and played until the end. April clapped and wanted to tell him how amazing he was.

"Mikey, that was incredible. Mikey? Mikey? Can you hear me?" She asked.

Mikey had his headphones on full blast, so he couldn't hear anything. April proceeded to tap his shoulder to get his attention. But that backfired when Mikey retracted into his shell from shock.

"Mikey. It's me, April. Can you come out?"

Mikey popped his head out, then popped out his arms and legs.

"Hey, April. What's up?"

"Nothing much."

"Cool, cool." He said as he stood back up.

They both sat down on the chair swing and stayed a couple of minutes in comfortable silence. Both of them never really had one-on-one time time together as they were very different from each other. After a while, April broke the silence and spoke up.

"Mikey, how come I never knew you played viola?"

"Well, I don't really like to perform in front of people, and my brothers kinda make fun of me for it." He said while he looked towards the horizon.

"Why?"

"Because they think that a ninja shouldn't play an instrument like that. They said it makes me weak, and I should give up on it. But I don't care. It makes me happy. Sensei understood how much it means to me." He paused as he felt tears well up on his eyes.

Aprils heart broke to see him so sad. Even though she doesn't really send time with him, she thinks of Mikey as her little brother. She put her hand on his shoulder and pulled him into a hug as he softly cried into her chest.

"I promise Mikey, we will find Master Splinter and bring him home." She said as she looked into his big beautiful eyes.

Mikey instantly felt comfortable with her and wiped his tears as she pulled him into another hug. They stayed like that for a while and had a good conversation. After a while, they were laughing their shells off.

"Thanks, April. I really needed this." He said as he put his head on April's shoulder.

"Anytime, lil bro."

"Lil bro?" He asked with a twinkle in his eye.

"Yea. 'Cause you're like the brother I never had."

Mikey audibly gasped as he pulled her into another bear hug.

That's how they spent their mornings from now on. Playing music and having conversations with each other. Since then, they grew closer and closer with each day, and they know no matter what happens, they will always have each others backs.
