(spoilers for book 5 the brightest night, this starts during Sunny and Thorn's escape of Burn's palace and finally action)

  Thorn and Sunny were running through the palace "Of course he'd try that" Thorn growled under her breath "the window" Sunny suggested and they changed direction toward the only window big enough for the plan *they skited to a stop*.

  "moons above can't we get a break" Sunny committed as she looked at the three soldiers that turned the corner. "why don't we do each other a favor and you just move out of our way.. ok?" Thorn asked *they assumed fighting stances in response* "of course" Thorn sighted.

  Thorn retrieved the knife from the holster on her right hind leg. 'Sunny doesn't have any weapons' Thorn worried 'moons above can she even fight' thorn got her answer by Sunny moving into a fighting stance. 'good they at least taught her something' she absorbed her daughter's sloppy stance 'it'll have to do' Thorn relucted.

(I know they escaped without running into guards in cannon but I wanted them to get into a fight here for this au)

  The middle one attacked first rushing forward and swinging the spear horizontally which they both dogged. The next moment the other guards attacked one going for thorn the other for sunny.

  Thorn dogged the second and third attacks from the two guards she was fighting rather easily then one of the guards brought their spear over head but Thorn took the opportunity despite being a small one she had done this enough to know she could. In a moment she closed the distance grabbing the spear and plunging her knife into their thought

  Thorn flipped the spear ready to kill the next soldier.

  Who immediately continued their attack by swiping their tail barb at her which she cough with ease and pressed her talons in drawing blood making them groan in pain 'speaks to their experience' Thorn thought amused. They thrust their spear at her which she dogged and thrust her spear into the cracks in their armor and simultaneously plunged her tail barb into their chest through the small crack on the plate she then jumped back after injecting them with her venom they fell almost instantly.

  Not wasting a moment she turned to where Sunny was expecting to find her in trouble but instead finding her daughter standing there looking at the body of a dead soldier. She was surprised then saw the wound on her chest.

  Without a wasted moment she dropped her spear and grabbed her knife as she ran passed the other soldier sheathing it as she stopped to examine Sunny's wound 'crap she needs medical attention' Thorn's thoughts growing frantic "I killed him" Sunny's voice barley audible.

  Thorn upon seeing her daughter's shocked face pulled her daughter into a hug trying to comfort her "I-It's o-okay" Thorn stuttered for the first time in years "It's going to be okay" Thorn promised.

  Thorn heard the scraping of talons against stone "we have to go" Thorn said gently. Sunny's only response was a shake of her head.

  Thorn couldn't help a glance at her daughter who was now resting on six-claws back who had opted to carry her after seeing her condition.

  "she'll make it" Qibli stated with infinite confidence "If she's anything like her mother she'll just shack it off" Thorn looked at him and reluctantly shuck her head agreeing  'you better be ok or I'll kill you myself' Qibli thought worried.
