mal sat in her seat bouncing her knee rhythmically until she felt pressure on it.
"rosey it's okay there's no need to worry, we're just sitting in class" matt assured her.
"yeah im sorry I just couldn't help it.." mallekai says barely above a whisper. matt gave her a warm smile before turning back to look at the board.
matt and mal had been best friends since kindergarten when mal was sitting on the swings in the pouring rain after one of her parents big arguments. she was crying her little heart out and matt came over asking if she was alright, she shook her head causing matt to hug her tightly almost instantly.
after that they were inseparable. recently matt had asked mallee out, of course she said yes! it had been a week so far and was going great!
mal was the happiest she had been since her parents divorce, matt comforted her throughout their whole divorce making sure she was okay.
they divorced when mallekai was only 7, this took a huge toll on her and she had never been the same since. she missed the happy family they once were even if she didn't have many memories of them together as one. most were of them arguing and the toxic feel that floated around the house smothering them.
"i'm just gonna go grab us books okay?" matt said softly before getting up from his seat and heading toward the bookshelf. mallekai turned back around deciding she should maybe try do some part of the work.
when he returned he handed her a folded up note with the word "rosey" on it in slightly messy cursive.
"what's this?" mal asked as she let out a small chuckle. it looked awfully similar to the one matt had handed her a week ago when he asked her to be his girlfriend and confessed his feelings. maybe it was a love letter!
mallekai unfolded it almost instantly with a large smile on her face. as she read the first sentence her heart dropped. "I want to break up, I never even liked you I just felt bad for you, you're actually really ugly if I'm honest. - Matt"
mallee crumpled the note in her hand shoving it in her pocket and rushed from her seat, tears welling in her eyes. of course matt followed her as if he didn't know he had just crushed her entire soul with a dumb note.
"mallekai! mallee wait! wait up!! what's wrong? what happened mal?? rosey please tell me." matt yelled at the girl rushing away from him with a quick pace.
mallee turned around, the tears falling from her eyes at a rapid speed "GO AWAY MATTHEW! YOURE THE LAST PERSON I WANT TO SEE! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?" mallekai yelled, her voice thick with betrayal and hurt.
with that she left matt standing in the middle of the hallway and ran to the bathroom. in the bathroom she cried until she couldn't anymore. she cried until she felt nothing. the one person she actually cared about in the world and she thought cared about her just as much wasn't who she thought he was..
