Science experiment

"Inside, now" Ji-an opened the door, dropping her purse on the table close to the door and watching her brothers all file past. 

"This is ridiculous" Jay mumbled, crossing his arms and sitting down. Ji-an knew he meant for her not to hear but she still did.

"Your right, Jay. This is ridiculous. It's ridiculous that I have to pick up my twelve, eleven and ten year old brothers from school because they thought it would be funny to almost blow up the science room!" Ji-an raised her voice. Sunghoon, Jake and Heeseung joined their brother on the couch, not a single one of them looking happy to be there. Ji-an didn't blame them; she wasn't happy either. 

"We didn't almost blow it up!" Sunghoong argued, sulking.

"I saw the room! There were scorch marks on the walls! What could you possibly have to say to explain that!?" Ji-an seemed completely out of her mind. She had no idea what to do. Raising her brothers had been fine when they weren't setting fires and experimenting with chemicals. 

"It was fun" Jake shrugged. Ji-an just stared at him like he had grown a second head. Then she made up her mind and stood up to her full height. 

"Well, you know I'm sure it'll be really fun when all four of you return to the school tomorrow to help clean up the mess and apologize not only to your science teacher but to your principal as well. And, even though I am usually against it, I am allowing the principal to give the four of you a public caning in front of the whole school. Maybe that will teach you that certain actions have consequences, especially when it could set fire to the whole school!" Ji-an decided. She used to plead with her brothers' teachers and principals to let them get away with certain things but this was one time that she was not going to interfere.

"Are you crazy? You know how hard he'll hit us!" Heeseung had been looking at the floor but he raised his head and stared at Ji-an.

"I'm sure it won't be too bad. Besides, you can hardly try to tell me that you don't deserve it" She responded. 

"He uses a cane! In case you don't know what that is, it's a long stick that is as thin as a whip and leaves tiny red welts wherever it is applied. We'll be lucky if we can walk after that!" Heeseung got up, feeling the need to protect not only himself, but his brothers as well. Ji-an pursed her lips, deep in thought.

"Fine. I won't let him do that to you" She gave in, knowing that she couldn't do that to her brothers anyways. 

"Thank you" Heeseung gave a deep sigh of relief and sat back down.

"But, that does not mean that you are off the hook. You will still take any punishment the school issues, so long as it is not physical, and you will do so without complaint" Ji-an told them. The four oldest boys nodded, unwilling to argue. Besides, she hadn't even gotten to the worst part yet.

"In addition, you can say goodbye to all privileges that you may have for the next three weeks. Including phones, computers, TV, hanging out with friends, any extracurricular activities and..." Ji-an stopped, preparing herself for the reaction that she was about to receive. All four boys watched her expectantly, waiting for their sister to finish her sentence. 

"And you will not be going on that camping trip with your friends" She added, turning her eyes away from her brothers. It was quiet for all of two seconds before chaos erupted. And Sunghoon erupted into tears.

"Noona! But we've been planning that trip for weeks! We already have everything packed" Jay complained. 

"You should've thought about how much fun you could've had on that trip before you decided it was a good idea to play with chemicals. Science is not a toy for you to play with. It can be dangerous sometimes and it's very wrong to abuse the use of science just because you want to see which chemicals will make the biggest boom! Now, I want all four of you go to go to your rooms. You can unpack while your up there" Ji-an motioned to the stairs. The boys just stayed sitting for a moment before slowly getting up and walking past her.
