"Your late. Severely late" Ji-an crossed her arms, looking disappointed at her oldest dongsaeng. Heeseung was nervously avoiding looking at his only sister.
"Look at me, Heeseung" Ji-an spoke gently, hoping that would get him to feel comfortable enough to talk to her. He still kept his head down, his eyes going back and forth over the floor as if he was searching for something.
"Fine. Your grounded" Ji-an decided. He was going to be grounded anyway but she had hoped that would come later in the conversation she wanted them to have.
"What!? Noona, I haven't been grounded in years!" His head snapped up, pleading in his eyes.
"That's because you haven't done anything in years" Ji-an responded. He bit his lip and turned his eyes back to the floor, ashamed. Ji-an dropped her arms to her side.
"Give me your phone and go to bed. You know the rules" Ji-an put her hand out, waiting. Heeseung's mouth hung wide open until he closed it with a click. He handed her his phone, glaring and stormed off upstairs. Ji-an decided not to say anything about his attitude. He was just upset and he had a right to be. She knew that Heeseung had probably begun to think that he was unable to get in trouble anymore and that she wouldn't be strict with him. Well now he's had a wakeup call and knows that's not true.
"This isn't fair" Heeseung informed me the next day as he sat down for breakfast.
"I'm sorry. It changes nothing" Ji-an barely acknowledged him, refusing to give her oldest baby brother the satisfaction of getting a reaction.
"It was only a little bit! It's not like I was out all night" Heeseung took a small breath, quietly thanking Ji-an for the breakfast that she set in front of him. Good, at least he hadn't completely forgotten his manners.
"It was three hours. And it doesn't matter if it was an hour or all night. The problem isn't even that you were late, though I'm not happy about that. The problem is that you didn't call or let me know you were going to be back late. That's why your grounded!" Ji-an lectured. Heeseung kept his eyes trained on the table, refusing to look at her. Ji-an knew he was frustrated. She was too.
"Heeseung-hyung is grounded?!" Niki looked between his sister and his oldest hyung.
"Really?" Heeseung glared at her. Ji-an gave him a small glare to warn him of the attitude.
"When did that happen?" Sunghoon wondered. Ji-an didn't answer. This was for my dongsaeng to decide if he wanted to share.
"You didn't even tell me how long I was grounded for!" Heeseung yelled at me. Ji-an didn't say anything about it.
"Sucks, doesn't it? When someone doesn't tell you something you're depending on them to tell you?" She crossed my arms. Heeseung just stared at her for a moment before realizing what she was saying.
"Oh, you did that on purpose" He guessed, nodding. That made sense and she knew that he understood now.
"But also, I haven't told you for how long your grounded because I haven't decided yet. I'm still thinking" Ji-an added.
"What are the options?" He wondered.
"A month. Or two weeks" Ji-an knew that he wasn't going to say anything he shouldn't. Heeseung was a good kid. He just had his moments.
"Don't you think both of those are a bit excessive?" He pointed out. Maybe he was right.
"Don't you think it was a bit excessive staying out without calling or texting three hours past curfew?" Ji-an responded quickly. Heeseung huffed and slumped down in his seat.
"Fair point" He muttered. Ji-an nodded once, setting out the rest of her brothers' breakfast and then going to pack their lunches. She had already eaten, way before they even got up. Ji-an remembered suddenly that Jungwon and Sunoo used to cry every time she didn't eat with them because they thought that she just never ate. It wasn't until she told them that she got up earlier and ate before they were awake that they stopped getting sad about it. Her brothers were too precious.
"Can't I-well, is there another option? Besides being grounded for the rest of my life?" Heeseung wondered. Ji-an knew what he was referring to but she had not done that in years; they were too old. The only one who really got spanked anymore was Niki but even he was getting a little old for that.
"That's up to you. But if that is what you decide, it will not be the same as when you were a kid. Your older now, Seungie. That means things will be different" Ji-an informed him. She could tell Heeseung was thinking about it for a moment.
"I understand. Should I wait for you in my room after school?" Heeseung wondered. Ji-an thought for a minute; it would have to be either his room or hers.
"Yeah, that'll work. Are you sure about this?" Ji-an still kind of wanted Heeseung to change his mind.
"I'm sure. I'm really sorry about last night, I should've texted you to let you know I was going to be late" Heeseung admitted.
"You shouldn't have been late in the first place. A few minutes, I can understand but three hours is too long, young man" Ji-an lectured.
"Yes ma'am. I'm sorry" Heeseung nodded.
"Get ready for school. All of you" Ji-an ordered, walking back into the kitchen. All her brothers left the table and then they were off to school and she had the next ten hours to prepare myself for a conversation with her oldest dongsaeng. Yay her. Honestly, she doubted she would have such a problem with it if Heeseung were more like his brothers but he was volunteering to take a spanking instead of being grounded and that alone made things ten times harder than they needed to be.
Jake, Sunghoon and Sunoo got back first, talking excitedly about their day in such a fast manner that she could barely understand them. Jungwon and Niki walked back by themselves and most of the time Jay walked alone and so did Heeseung because neither of them wanted to wait for the other. Jian was secretly hoping that they would decide to change it up today so that she could send Jay out with the kids as soon as Heeseung got back. Just her luck, that didn't happen.
"We'll be out of here soon as hyung gets back, don't worry" Jay promised his sister. Damn, she loved these kids for being so thoughtful and understanding. Ji-an would have to remember to treat them later that night for being such good kids. Maybe she could give them a double treat, depending on their behavior and grades in school. Of course, then if one or two of the kids was doing better than the others, that wouldn't seem fair, so she wasn't sure. Her thoughts were interrupted by the door opening and Heeseung stepping in, a picture of anxiety.
"And that's our cue to leave! Come on guys, let's get some ice cream" Jay herded the younger boys out the door.
"Don't give them too much sugar! They need to sleep tonight" Ji-an yelled after them but she didn't think Jay heard her or he just pretended not to. Heeseung stayed, fidgeting nervously by the door until Ji-an turned to him.
"Come here" Ji-an motioned him over and Heeseung went slowly, still nervous about this. He wasn't sure if he had made the right decision and he was beginning to regret it.
"Maybe, we could um...I change my mind. I don't want to do this anymore" Heeseung backed off.
"It's either this and a one week grounding or you don't do this and you get a three week grounding. Your choice" Ji-an waited, letting Heeseung pick. The answer was clear.
Ten minutes later, Heeseung was crying into his sister's shoulder, clinging to her. It reminded Ji-an a little bit of when he was younger and still fit in her lap. He wasn't that little anymore, sadly.
"Your okay. It's all over, little fawn" Ji-an assured her, bringing out the old name from their childhood. Heeseung laughed wetly, wiping his face on his sleeve.
"Don't do that. Use a tissue" Ji-an grabbed one, handing it to her dongsaeng. Heeseung obeyed, balling the tissue up in his hand once he was done.
"I am sorry, noona" Heeseung repeated, pushing himself further into her comfort.
"I know honey. It's okay and I forgive you, I already had before you even apologized" Ji-an promised. Heeseung nodded and closed his eyes. Within minutes, he was asleep and then the other boys decided to join the oldest two.
