"How is the progress?"
"Looking fine indeed. Care for some drink?"
"You know I don't drink poison."
"It's a jest of course. But what a phenomenal substance indeed. A shot or two is enough to send you into a deep slumber."
"He expects results. Don't disappoint him or you will be in a deep slumber yourself."
"Have a little faith. All shall be according to the print. Not a single second is wasted here and not a single promise will be broken."
"Remember your place and consequences from failures that comes before you."
.
.
.
"Hey Tanj."
"Yes, Zen. What is it?"
"Mind telling me, why oh why are we here?"
Within a dark and enclosed space, droplets of water trickle down the pipe. Moonlight shone through the narrow bars in the ceiling height window. Two men sat on the stone cold floors and walls slowly freezing to death with large metal bars preventing them from leaving such place. Such a bizarre circumstance, surely made one wonders. How did they end up in such predicament in the first place?
"Was it because of bandits? Or those who seek to bring you down? Maybe even some hired assassin tasked to capture and kill you?"
"Those are some grand presumptions Zen. But no. We're merely here because of." Tanjiro smiled looking dejected. "A blunder."
.
Just a few hours from before, the two men were on their way to the next city. Night had fallen and they met and unexpected circumstance. Their vehicle had ran out of its source of power. A recently discovered liquid capable of burning as a fuel source and of course it is rarely found in the middle of the fields. Hence that's where they were at.
"So what do we do now?" Zen asked Tanj as he disembark from the passenger seat
"We have no other choice but to find a place to stay. Out here in the fields, who knows what could be lurking."
"Surely with your nose and my ears we could prevent anything from sneaking up on us."
"That's where lies the problem here Zen. Wild animals are honed for such prey like you and me. Should the need arises, we should conserve our ammunition."
"Then what do you suggest? Freeze to death till morning?"
"Seek some shelter of course. There seemed to be a structure not far from here."
"How can you tell?"
"No time to waste. Grab the essentials and lets go."
After hastily covering their vehicle with a protective cloth and grabbing some essential items, the two sets off towards the lone structure in the middle of nowhere. A dark silhouette showed them that it was a house of sort. Tanjiro approaches the door to knock, only to find on the first knock that it wasn't lock at all and the interior had seemed to be abandoned long ago.
"Well?" Zen differ to his judgement
"It's shelter at least. We should be able to sleep until morning."
"There's no one in here that's for sure."
And so the two gentleman step into the house and began to explore its magnificent facade once upon a time. Chandeliers still hung high above the room, wooden floors all the way. It's a house befits for a lord to reside in, a shame for it was abandoned and ended up into such state. As Zen was looking around for objects to burn as fuel, he found himself stumbling into a room full of books.
