Chapter 18

"Merlin I'm starving," said Jasper, carefully pulling Whiskers into his lap as he and Kirra sat back down with the boys after their meeting. Jasper leant over, grabbing a Chocolate Frog from Theodore and adjusting his position next to him so he was comfortable. Kirra sat next to Mattheo who handed her a chocolate frog after placing a quick kiss on her temple. She ripped open the wrapper, bit off the Frog's head, and leaned back with her eyes closed as though she had had a very exhausting morning.

"Well, there are two fifth-year prefects from each House," said Jasper, looking thoroughly disgruntled as she took her seat. "Boy and girl from each."

"Pansy is the girl Prefect for Slytherin, which isn't so bad I guess but I would have preferred Daphne" said Jasper, patting Whiskers softly and scratching behind the cats ears

"Pansy is gonna do a great job," replied Kirra at once, giving a small nod but her eyes remained closed as she snuggled into Mattheo's side.

"Yeah I guess so," said Jasper with a small nod, stuffing the rest of the Frog into his mouth and taking another.

"So Gryffindor is Ron and Hermione," said Theodore, "and Slytherin is Jasper and Pansy."

"Who's Hufflepuff?" Mattheo asked, his eyes falling on his girlfriend, wondering who she was going to be paired with

"Ernie Macmillan," said Kirra softly, knowing that Mattheo was not exactly a big fan of the boy especially after what had happened in second year. "And Anthony Goldstein and Padma Patil for Ravenclaw," said Kirra, quickly trying to change the subject .

"Congratulations on becoming prefects," said a vague voice.

Everyone turned to look at Luna Lovegood, who was gazing un-blinkingly at Kirra over the top of The Quibbler. She swallowed her mouthful of Frog.

"Thanks Luna," she said, looking mildly surprised. She had never actually had a proper conversation with the girl since she was younger than them and they didn't have any classes, but she had seen her around the halls a bit. 

"Is it okay if I sit here," Luna asked. All the boys were quick to protest but Kirra smiled softly, aware that the girl didnt have many friends and she knew she wasnt going to do any harm

"Of course you can," Kirra said fondly, patting the empty seat beside her

All the boys just rolled their eyes, opening their mouths to complain but they were all shut up when they caught the glare being sent their way from a particular Hufflepuff. Luna smiled, "thank you very much," she said with a happy beam. 

"You smell very nice," she added thoughtfully as she sat next to the Hufflepuff, "its very pleasant." Kirra thanked her softly, not really knowing what to say as it wasnt exactly commmon for people to comment on her smell

Luna retreated behind The Quibbler again. Jasper stared at the cover with his mouth hanging open for a few seconds, then looked around at Theodore for some kind of explanation, but Theodore had stuffed his knuckles in his mouth to stop herself giggling. 

Mattheo shook his head, bemused, then checked his watch.

"We're supposed to patrol the corridors every so often," Jasper told Mattheo and Theodore, "and we can give out punishments if people are misbehaving. I can't wait to get Draco, Crabbe and Goyle for something. . . ."

"You're not supposed to abuse your position, J!" said Kirra with a laugh, shaking her head at the boy, "thats not very responsible and im sure you could lose your position too."

"Yeah but c'mon it'll be fun," said Jasper with a pout, "besides, imagine the look on those idiots faces when they find out that I'm the Prefect."

"You've got a point, I mean he probably was expecting to become the prefect," Mattheo said with a nod, "I mean this in the nicest way mate but we all thought he was gonna get it too, I mean he's got Snape wrapped around his fat fucking finger."
