The Old Has Passed Away

    Calvin and Michelle weren't on good terms when he left for his missionary trip that Saturday morning. After Calvin left Michelle continued her daily routine. Throughout her morning she kept on remembering this one scripture" be sober,be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." She automatically assumed it was because of her and Calvin's argument earlier that morning and said out loud "God he has to apologize to me, I'm not entertaining him or that situation, I will have a great day and that's that". Michelle not realizing that pride had creeped into her heart,hardening it. Michelle stirring her pasta on the stove making sure it was extra creamy to her liking proceeded to pick up her phone once again which she did the majority of her day, checking her phone periodically hoping to get a call from Calvin. This time she stumbles on a text message from a number she doesn't recognize that came in about 30 minutes ago. She wondered why she didn't receive a notification until she saw the silent sign by the person's number, the text read " hey Michelle this is Shae from 063, I know our friendship ended on bad terms and I wasn't a best friend to you as I should've been so I sincerely apologize and hope we can mend our relationship. Also if you'd like, our old high school Is hosting a reunion tonight and I thought it would be a good opportunity to talk and hang out like old times?". Michelle wondered how shae was able to retrieve her new number, why would she invite her to anything relating to high school knowing she has no interest in anyone or anything over there, and she was in a different place now and needed the old to remain in the past. Michelle then went down memory lane of her and shae and thought maybe she changed and she could use a distraction besides she won't stay long. After the back and forth she finally responded "hey shae nice to hear from you, hope all is well and we'll see if you've really apologized by your actions🙄. Anyways are we meeting up there or?" And pressed send. Shae responded back and said " No, my actions will speak by being her designated driver 😂 because I know that's not your ideal place to be. But thank you for considering." Michelle responded out loud " I should drive so I can control my departure and not have to deal with the extra headache. But it is nice to be driven around though, I have Uber money!." That answered her thoughts and she responded back " okay i shared my location with you, let me know when you are on your way." And pressed send.
      Michelle casually dressed in her navy blue two piece pants set paired with her blue and white new balances walked to Shae's car, when she went to grab the door handle her stomach dropped and she felt uneasy, she assumed it was nothing and continued, opening the door a wave of smoke hit Michelles nostrils as shae was finishing her blunt and the song warning by biggie smalls began to play. Michelle said " can you put on another song please and air this car out it stinks in here, you are about to have my hair smelling like weed". Shae responded by giving stiff Michelle a big squeeze saying " you've never changed" and Michelle responded " you haven't either" and they both began laughing but there was regret behind Michelle's words. It's too late to turn back now she thought to herself as shae began driving.
       Nostalgia formed in the mind of Michelle as they were now driving in the neighborhood where they formerly went to school and she blurted out while looking out the window" wow it's been so long, that was my favorite store, those warm sausalitos were amazing before class". Shae responded " yes, we would always get the same thing, so much happened on this block". Shae found parking a block away from their old high school and after adjusting each other's outfits and brushing shaes fresh install they continued walking towards the school. Different voices and familiar faces filled the room and immediately a loud " is that Michelle" rang from the corner of the room and Michelle scanned the place trying to match the voice with a face until Jenny appeared with her arms opened walking towards her and Michelle meeting her half way smiling as they embraced each other sharing a bunch of i miss yous.  After all the catching up, Michelle, surprisingly glad to have seen everyone, found a place to sit as her social meter was now running low.
Michelle checked her phone and still no text from Calvin, she felt herself becoming sad so she decided to drown her thoughts within the music that was playing. Michelle with her head down scrolling on Pinterest and repeating the lyrics to the music here and there was interrupted by a bass voice she recognized saying "so it is you" drawing her full attention. She looked up lightly smirking and responded "yes it is me, hello to you too Landen". Landen responded "can i sit with you" and Michelle thinking nothing of it said "with me? No but the seat?yea" Landen shook his head and while sitting down he saw the ring on Michelle's left hand and said " wow, someone took hold of you before i could". Michelle realizing he saw her ring shook her head and responded " what did you think was going to happen, I wasn't good for you then and now I'm married"and Landen responded shamelessly " our friendship was too strong for me to let you go, I would've waited for you until you became better but you left" and Michelle responded "what i needed in that time,no one was able to give me but God, why would I burden you with a void you wouldn't be able to fill? It would've ruined you, so yes I left, my misery never liked company and I apologized to you a long time ago concerning this matter so let's leave it where it is, the past". Landen quietly stared at Michelle deep in her eyes and said " I still lo-.." and was suddenly cut off and pulled away by his friends. Michelle let out a deep sigh glad that he didn't get to finish his sentence and now trying not to reminisce about the times between them too, she intercepted "for crying out loud I'm married, these things are not for a married woman of God,what is up with me" she said as her mind began to declare war against her. Her emotions were high, she became too weak to resist her flesh because all day she's been ignoring her way out.
     A few minutes went by and the room started to decrease in person. Michelle concluded it was time to leave a long time ago but she was waiting on Shae to return from wherever she went. More time passed and still there was no shae, "where is this girl?" Michelle asked while looking around the room and then she decided to call, it went to voicemail twice, she texted " girl wya,I'm ready to leave" and the message went through. Michelle thought to herself again " her phone must be on do not disturb, ugh" rolling her eyes she lifted from her seat and starting making her way towards Landen and asked " Have you seen shae" Landen responded "Nah, she left with mike to pick up some weed but that was a while ago,call her". " I called her multiple times but she's not answering. How can she leave me when she invited me here and offered to give me a ride?. I knew to drive myself". Michelle responded annoyingly. She thought to herself of how much of a mistake this was, this was one of the reasons she and shae were not friends, and how this whole thing was a big mistake. Landen, realizing how annoyed Michelle was, took it upon himself to offer her a ride home.
