A week later
Jake POV
"Miso yah!" I called out, waving as she exited the school.
She smiled before bidding her friends a goodbye and walking towards me.
"Hey Jake!" She exclaimed, waving.
"Hey! So what do you want to do first?" I laughed, awkwardly looking at her.
She thought for a while before quickly speaking, "Let's get boba!"
I laughed before we ran off to the nearby boba shop.

"Ah... So this is boba?" I laughed, looking at the cup in awe as Miso started sipping on her drink.
"Mhm! Can't believe you haven't had it before." She laughed, using the straw to stir her drink.
I laughed before quickly taking a sip, taking in all the flavours of the drink.
I let out a 'wow' before taking another sip.
"Good right?" Miso laughed.
I quickly nodded before taking another sip.
"Shall we go somewhere else? Like a café?" She quickly asked as students started rushing into the store.
"How does the beach sound? It's like 20 minutes from here." I suggested, looking at the time.
"Sounds good to me!" She laughed before I led her outside and called my driver.

"Wah!!" Miso screamed as I splashed water onto her now partially soaked uniform.
I laughed as she tried to remove the hair from her face.
How cute.
"Wait..." I huffed.
I shook the feeling off and quickly splashed her with some water.
"Sim Jake! I have to take the bus home you know? Imagine how embarrassing it is for me to go onto the bus like this!" She huffed.
"It's okay! I'll drop you off later." I laughed as she looked up in surprise.
"Really? You'd do that for me?" She exclaimed, her face as red as a tomato.
I laughed before nodding.
Was she blushing?
"But we have to go soon, I have dinner at 7." I laughed and she quickly obliged.

Miso POV
"I'm home!" I exclaimed, taking off my shoes.
"Love your back! Just in time, come eat!" Grandma laughed as she placed a few sets of chopsticks on the table.
I quickly went to the kitchen and helped her carry the few bowls of rice as she called the rest over to eat.
"So, who dropped you off?" Grandma laughed, placing a piece of chicken into my bowl.
"Ah, just a friend." I responded vaguely before taking a bite of my rice.
"Girl or guy?" She asked once more.
"Guy, why?" I laughed just as dad and grandpa entered.
"Who's a guy?" Dad asked as he sat down.
"Someone dropped her off just now, I was just curious." Grandma laughed as I winced.
Why would she say that?!
"A guy dropped you off?" Dad exclaimed.
"He's a friend dad, he has a girlfriend. I stand no chance with this dude anyway, he's the richest and most popular guy in school. Girls go crazy over him all the time." I explained quickly, taking a piece of chicken.

Jake POV
"I'm home." I sighed, throwing my shoes onto the shoe rack.
I saw Layla running up so me as I quickly squatted down to give her some attention.
I soon heard a cough coming from the dining room and stood up.
I quickly huffed before walking to the dining table where my parents were seated.
"Where were you? We've been waiting." Mum huffed as I looked at the plates on the table.
"Answer her Jake." Dad huffed, placing his phone down.
I smiled before looking at the time.
I quickly shoved my phone in their face before reading out the time.
'6:58'
"You weren't waiting for anyone, I'm still early." I smiled, before sitting down.
"Watch your attitude Jake. You shouldn't talk to your elders like that." Dad said monotonously as he picked up his utensils.
I scoffed before picking up my utensils and eating.

Miso POV
"This Jake guy really is something..." Yujin huffed.
"I mean he does seem a little off but he's nice I guess." I laughed, staring at her through the screen.
"Guys don't forget about me!" Hyuk chimed in as he shut his computer screen.
"Yah Hyuk, you literally told us to leave you alone?" Yujin scoffed.
"Yeah but if I want us to be together again, I have to study hard right?" He sighed, removing his glasses.
"Speaking of that, how will you find a place here?" I asked, concerned.
"Find a job or maybe stay in the dorms if they have any..." Yujin sighed, stacking her books to the side.
"But this Jake guy has a girlfriend right? Why would he just send you home like that?" Hyuk laughed.
"That's what I'm saying? It probably doesn't mean anything." Yujin huffed.
"Yeah, he probably just feels bad that you have to take the bus back home all dirty." Hyuk said mockingly.
I nodded in agreement, considering the fact that he did indeed have a girlfriend.
But maybe I do want it to mean something...
"Yeah, and besides he's not even THAT nice I guess, you deserve so much more." Yujin laughed.
I was about to respond when I heard screaming and shouting coming from Yujin's end of the line.

Yujin POV (TW: mention of add!ctions and v!olence)
Here we go again.
I sighed before locking my room door before putting on my headphones but to no use.
"I didn't take the last of it I swear!" Mum shouted.
"Then where did it go!" Dad retaliated as the sound of glass smashing could be heard.
There was a few minutes of silence until there was a loud banging on my door.
"Yujin ah... can you spare dad a few dollars?" dad called out.
"Yujin ah!" He repeated upon not receiving a reply.
"YUJIN!" He shouted, banging on my door.
I stayed put, scared that he would break the door down.
"YOO YUJIN!" He shouted as glass shattered against the door.
I flinched before quickly making my way to my bag, hoping that I had spare change to give him before things escalated.
"Don't wait until I break down this door you b!tch." He mumbled.
Upon nearing this, I fumbled towards the door and threw a few 5 dollar bills under the door.
"Good." He mumbled before I heard the faint sound of him walking away.
I quickly hopped back onto my bed and covered myself with my blanket as the faint shouting started again.
"Yujin don't cry." Hyuk reassured on the other end of the line.
"Deep breaths." Miso instructed quickly.
I shook my head as tears welled up in my eyes.
I can't put up with this any longer...

The next day (mention of bl00d)
I sighed as I walked out of my room, avoiding all the pieces of broken glass.
I walked towards the living room to see my mum passed out on the couch with my dad nowhere to be seen.
I inched closed to see scratches all over her and blood covered glass all over the floor.
He hit her.
Again.
I huffed and took out the med kit and a glass of water before making my way back to her.
"Mum..." I whispered, setting down the things onto the coffee table.
She sighed and soon got up as I handed her the glass of water.
"Sorry Yujin." She started, taking a sip of water.
"I know mum, it's okay." I smiled, taking the glass from her and preparing the medicine.
Although my mum was also under the influence, she was never violent with me unlike my dad.
You could say she was a bad person but not too bad of a parent.
"I'll try to get clean, seriously." She sighed as I started to apply the medication on her cuts.
"Will you though? You said that last time." I laughed.
"I promise, I'll leave your dad and we can start a new life. Just the two of us." She smiled.
"And where will you get the money and courage to? You'll eventually come back like last time." I reminded.
"I know, but I want to try and be a good parent to you." She smiled.
I stared at her for a while, shocked at what she had just said.
"Ay... don't say this kind of nonsense, sober up." I shrugged, picking up the pieces of broken glass.
"But-" She protested as I walked back into my room to get ready for school.
