Charlotte's POV
I just finished my jump when I heard the ancient ones calling out to me. I closed my eyes and let them communicate to me.
"What is it?"
I whispered in the air. The In Between started trembling like there's an earthquake but I didn't budge. I just sat there indian style in the middle of everything.
Someone is after the fruit. Do not let them near it.
I will never get used to hearing the ancients in my head. It still gives me the chills. When the tremors stopped I immediately draw a rune of communication on the ground to summon a connection with Becky.
I was checking the portals when I heard her voice. I turned to the direction where it came from and saw her.
I was stunned, however, to see a very familiar face. Standing behind Becky with her arms over her chest was Eva. I looked in her eyes. I knew that she did not recognize me, I can see it in her face.
My tears fell as I look at her.
"Eva."
I called her. She did not respond at all. Becky called my attention and I snapped out of my misery.
I told her what the ancients told me. She understood. I cut the connection but continued to stare at the place where I saw Eva a while ago.
Eva. Engfa in her current life.
I had to save them. I sacrificed being unable to hold her in any of her lifetimes and the ability to stay out of the In Between longer for her.
I have to save her once again. I need the other half of the fruit.
I opened my palm and summoned the fruit of knowledge. It floated on top of my palm. Only half of it remained while the other half was lost after I jumped all three of them to the century where they are right now.
I was careless.
I closed my palm and the fruit disappeared in thin air. It's within me.
I am one with it. When I lost half of it, I also lost half of myself.
Human life is complex. You trust people who will just betray you in the end.
Just like what Win did to Freen and Engfa.
I sent Becky to their century on purpose because I chose her. If she accepts, she will have the chance to join me in my never ending quest for order over this chaos that greed has created.
For now, I need to jump time again.
To America.
Year: 2030The ancients would often lead me to years or centuries where there is too much chaos. To once again, reintroduce to some of the most brilliant minds, the beauty of "not knowing".
I summoned the runic symbol that allows me to open the veil of time and an oval shaped tear appeared infront of me. Inside of it is a dark void. Astronomers call it a black hole. Black holes do not destroy, they transport.
I stepped into the void and prepared myself for the jump.
Engfa's POV.
Memories came flowing down on me like hot water when I saw that familiar face. Even in the shadows I can see the outline of a face. The face of the man who taught us everything we knew.
Freen and I. He mentored us.
Then he disappeared on us without any explanation. We did not dare look for him because we knew that he doesn't want to be found.
