A small cat sat on top of the hill and stared at the sky; the big orange eyes followed each star with extreme concentration, as if talking to them. Its paws, darker than the rest of its body, moved anxiously, scratching at the stone beneath it. He flicked his tail, causing the dust to rise only to be blown away by the light wind of the Greenleaf season. He closed his eyes, taking in the warm scents and sensations. He held his focus up high, as if he expected the stars to come down to tell him a secret.

He heard a meow behind him. He turned his face, walking away with his leader. He lowered his head in a respectful nod.

"Mountainstar."

The huge cat moved with elegance, sporting its large muscles covered in a beautiful dark gray, slightly bluish coat. His green eyes were bright, highlighted by the numerous scars on his face, something Mountainstar was proud to show off.

"Rattlesnaketail," he replied, taking a seat beside the tabby cat. The little one continues to stare at him, waiting for the leader to reveal the reason for his visit. "Are you waiting for a signal from StarClan?"

The cat stated, turning its attention to the starry sky. The night was extremely pleasant. He could still hear the excited meows of his companions in the camp not far away. New kittens have been born, and nothing better than to celebrate, especially after a treacherous Leaf-bare season.

"I have a strange feeling, Mountainstar. But I don't want to worry you with false fears."

The leader smiled, his whiskers moving playfully.

"I've always trusted your instincts, Rattlesnaketail," he comforted. "You are our medicine cat, and I know you will always do the right thing."

The medicine cat puffed out his chest, pleased with his leader's words. It was true; Mountainstar always made it clear that he had the utmost confidence in his warriors and medicine cats. But there was something else. Something Rattlesnaketail couldn't decipher.

"Tell me," Mountainstar meowed, watching the stars. His eyes were calm, as if he feared nothing. "What is this feeling that scares you?"

Rattlesnaketail twitched thoughtfully. "StarClan hasn't spoken to me in a while, and I'm afraid that's not a good sign. It's all very quiet, very serene. And usually when things are like this...

"Problems arise" The leader completed the sentence. Rattlesnaketail nodded in agreement.

"We have to be careful, Mountainstar. If we are not careful, troublesome things can happen." The medicine cat seemed to hesitate for a moment, as if he thought the words over before he said them. "Last time..."

"Last time, I wasn't leader!" His voice was loud and fierce, making the smaller cat jump in fright. Mountainstar gathered himself, breathing heavily. "Last time, I was not leader, Rattlesnaketail. But now, I'll make the right decisions. We will make the right decisions. No mistakes this time."

The tabby medicine cat held steady, staring into his leader's deep eyes. "No mistakes this time."

He hoped Mountainstar was right.
