08| TRUTH OR DRINK pt.2
•I THINK I'M FALLING FOR Hayley fucking Parker, or is it just my emotions that's betraying me, again. And trust me, I don't travel well whenever this things happen to me.
Swirling neon lights, loud pop music playing from speakers, clock-full of people grinding against one another, uproarious laughter and chatters, foggy air with the bitter smell of cigarettes, and booze.
My former companion. A sinister smile tugs imperceptibly at the corner of my lips as I take a slow drag of my cigar, filling my lungs with it, and then exhale, lazily watching the smoke curl towards the high ceiling.
Relaxed, I refocus my peripheral vision on her. Wavy hair bouncing as she prances, moving her ample hips together with her arms stretched above her head. Low back red dress floats up as she waltz, exposing the tawny skin of long slim legs, and a knot tightens just below my stomach.
How does she do it. I muse inwardly, how does she get the emotions out of me so effortlessly.
"There you are." A hand clamps heavily on my shoulder, and Jayden Reed bustles into my line of vision. Green eyes crinkling, thin lips pulled in a smirk. "You're hard to find, you know."
I scoff, stubbing out my cigarette. "I've been here, dude. Where've you been?" I ask, eying him wryly.
He chuckles, and fetch out a packet of cigarette. "Around." He says simply, popping a fag into his mouth. I wait for the hiss and flare of the match, and then the puff of cigar smoke.
Taking a swig of alcohol from my solo cup, I turn away, allowing my gaze to find Hayley Parker. "I saw you and Anderson go up with a blonde."
Jayden chuckles again, blowing out a long stream of smoke. "It's just cruise, Hayley's the real deal. Besides, it's a party, you've got to loosen up a little bit."
"She wouldn't like that, you know." I say quietly, the beats of my heart rapidly increasing as the subject of our discussion struts towards us, with Winston, Tompkins and a short ombré head, clinging at her sides.
"There you are." Jennifer chirps, her voice loud against the blasting music. She's evidently drunk, but not drunk enough, because she still has her balance over her platforms.
"What's up, guys?" Jayden speaks up, cause I wasn't going to, and pulls Hayley possessively to himself, a faint whiff of jasmine teases my nostrils.
"Where's Newt, we were about going out back to play a game." Camille explains, futilely scanning the heads in the crowd. "What game?" Jayden asks, his chin resting on Hayley's head.
"Truth or drink." The ombré head, Becky returns, smiling mischievously.
Lame. I scoff inwardly, searching Hayley's face. I catch her face profile, almost buried in Jayden's chest and my heart ties itself in a knot. Fluttering lashes, fine line of cheekbones, like porcelain in the light.
"I'll just call him." Camille decides, fishing out her phone from her purse.
Jennifer staggers, and I reach out instinctively and grasps her arm to steady her. She stares at me through her fake lashes, smiling coquettishly, and something else gnaws at me. Pity, guilt?
"Thank you," she mouths, her smile broadening as she leans against my shoulder. I tense up, surprised by her drunken boldness. Beside me, I feel Hayley's gaze on me.

"How old were you when you lost your virginity, Jenny." Camille gropes, cradling Becky in her arms.
It's a cold night, with the sliver of moonlight and the smattering of stars tossed into the blanket of darkness. Stands of trees billows and stretches to nature's will, and the splashing sound of the lake, tries to override the muffled music playing inside the house.
"When I was sixteen." Jennifer answers, burying a bare foot into the sand. Silence lapses and she then swirls the beer bottle on the patio table. It rotates, and slowly stills in front of Newt.
He rolls his eyes skywards and loll heavily against the rattan chair. "Do you've feelings for anybody in this group?" Hayley asks, and I tilt to stare at her across the patio table. The outside lamplight slants across her face, highlighting her mouth and putting her eyes in the shadow. I watch her quietly, until she looks up and pins her eyes on me.
"I'll drink." Newt grumbles, hastily slurping at his solo cup of brandy.
"The hell man, we'll know you've got something for Jenny." Jayden says, Hayley cocooned in his arms.
"Fuck off." Newt and Jennifer cuss together, and a snicker goes round the table. Agitated, Newt swings the bottle and huff back. The bottle swirls and finally settles to point at Jayden.
"You spoke too soon, Jay." Becky cackles.
"All right, get on with it." He returns indifferently. I watch him trail his fingers against Hayley's arm, and my breath comes out almost heavily.
"Have you ever been with another aside Hayley?" The question leaves my mouth before I can stop myself. I grind my teeth guiltily together, and school my face into a blank canvas at their baffled stares.
Hayley sits uprightly, Jennifer whistles low against her breath, and Newt clears his throat. I turn my gaze to meet Jayden's afraid ones. "It's just a casual question, man. If Newt was dating I would've asked him the same." I say, releasing the tension.
"Of course not, man." Jayden chuckles shakily in reply, gulping at his solo cup regardless. Newt abruptly reach out and spin the bottle. It settles in front of me.
Jennifer eyes me lewdly and slowly crosses her legs. "If you had the opportunity to shag any girl here, who would it be." She asks.
Becky is now drumming a staccato rhythm with her manicured fingers against her rattan chair, Newt is nervously emptying his solo cup, Jennifer's flirtatious gaze is pinned on me, Jayden waits patiently for my answer, Camille's blue eyes is everywhere, and Hayley, she's nonchalant, curled up in Jayden's arms, eyes fixed to the ground.
I feel a lump coagulate in my throat, and I try to swallow it, but cannot. A depressing sense of sadness, combined with guilt weasel through me. However, I let it hit like an earthquake.
"Hayley."
