It was Hela. She looked furious.
"So you're cheating on me now?" she hissed at me.
Gods damn it.
"I'm not!" I exclaimed. Before I could have explained the details of the misunderstanding, she stepped close, grabbed me by the collar of the bathrobe and slammed me against the wall.
I hit my head and blacked out for a few seconds, so I missed the first few words of her next sentence, but I heard the most important part.
"...-you, you ungrateful little shit!"
Thanks to the blow I got on my head the world was in slow motion for me. I tried to grab her wrists and plead, but both my hands and lips were too slow to obey my brain, as if heavy weights were hanging on them.
"I-... didn't-... Pat..." was all I could utter.
"Don't bring your daughter into this!" Hela leaned so close to me that our noses were almost touching. I'm never going to forget the way she looked at me at that moment. I was on her worst side.
"If you think you can earn my pity, you're fucking wrong!" she slammed me against the wall one more time. I squealed in pain and that seemed to satisfy her. She let go of my collar, and let me fall on the ground.
Blood was dripping down the back of my head. My vision blurred for a moment, but luckily I didn't pass out.
"You are going to rot in jail for the rest of your life, I will eviscerate you with my own hands and fucking enjoy it! You shall pay with your blood!" Hela stepped closer to me. Her words were dripping with sadistic lust, but somewhere behind that... there was rage and disappointment.
She really wanted me. She wasn't mad only because she thought I cheated on her, she was also mad because she thought she would lose me.
This thought gave me strength to pick myself up. Once I was on my feet, I looked her in the eyes, responding to her death stare with a pleading one. Please, just hear me out, I tried to say with my eyes.
"You think you're smarter than me? You think you can trick a goddess and cheat on her?" Hela took one more step closer. She was towering over me, commanding respect and fear -- the same way she did with Otto less than a day ago. This realization felt like a stab in the stomach.
I cleared my throat. Despite being dizzy, the adrenaline held me in place and gave me my voice back.
"I didn't cheat on you." I said.
"Oh, so you're accusing Freyja of lying. Because the Goddess of Love is known for breaking people up and ruining marriages, right?" Hela laughed bitterly. If she was trying to be menacing, she was doing a very good job at it.
She grabbed my jaw like she did before, but this time it felt like she was trying to shatter it. I didn't have the intention to break eye contact, but now I definitely couldn't. She was forcing me to keep looking at her as she went on.
"You're just making it worse for yourself, mortal."
Hela paused for a moment and I used the time to interrupt her.
"Freyja didn't lie, she misunderstood the situation!" I explained. It wasn't so easy to speak while she was holding my jaw so firmly, but I put all my strength into it. "Pat and I were talking and we fell asleep on the same bed. It was an accident. Freyja came in, saw us, and she thought we were having an affair. Before I could have explained, she left."
I expected more yelling, but Hela just stared at me in silence, taking my words in. Her grip on my face loosened a little, and she didn't look that angry anymore. When I realised she doesn't have anything to say, I spoke again.
