Chapter 2- Azrah gets Discharged and meeting Brianna

Drew's POV

I was asleep in Rick's room after the shift yesterday, when I felt something hit my back. "Mhmmm, what?" "Can you help me up, please?" "Yeah," I got up and helped Rick and then went to look at my phone, and saw that it was noon. "Do you want me to take a look at your leg now?" I ask. "Sure," "Ok, I'll be back in a minute," I say, grabbing my badge and clipping it on my shirt, and walking out of the room. I walked over to Rick's nurse and asked her if she could get Rick pain meds at his request so I could rewrap his leg, and she said yes. I then went to the supply closet, grabbed all the stuff I needed, and went back to the room.

A bit later

I was upstairs with Azrah while he got his discharge tests done, and so far he's passed 4 out of 5 and he's currently doing the car seat test, which was the last test.

The test finished, and Az passed, so I filled out the paperwork to discharge him and then I was able to take him down to the floor Rick was on "Hey," "The boy is free," "Nice," "Here, I'm going to go grab one of those infant bassinet things to have in here that was he can just stay in here, plus I can put all his essential stuff near you for when I'm downstairs working," I say giving Azrah to Rick "Ok,"

I went to the supply closet and found what I needed and then brought it all back to the room. "OK, I have to go downstairs and work, call me if you need anything, and if you are asleep and wake up to him not being in the room, I'll have him with me, I'll text you if I take him downstairs," Ok, love you," "Love you too,"

I went downstairs and went to the locker room to change. "Hey Drew," "Hey Jordan," "How's Rick and Azrah?" "They're good, Az got discharged and he's currently with Rick," "That's good,"

A while later

Topher's mother was in the ER, so Topher and TC were dealing with that. ''Yo T," Kenny says. "Yeah?" "Nasty accident on Highway 281, they need a doctor to move the patient, choppers waiting, you want it?" "Drew, you take it, I-" TC says to me. "Yeah, stick with Mama Toph, ok, yeah, I got it. Uh, Shannon, you're with me, let's go,"

We got in the helicopter and I sent a text to Rick saying that I was going out to the field. We got to the accident, and were brought to a car with a woman and a teenage girl.

We got the girl out and then started trying to get the woman stable enough to get her out.

2 hours later

We got back to the hospital, and I took the girl, Brianna into my care. I was currently putting a cast on her arm. "I know it's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but it'll help your fracture heal," I say to her. " What's going to happen to my foster mom? Is she going to be okay?" Brianna asks. "We've got our best doctors working on her, So, as soon as I know more, I'll let you know, I promise. In the meantime, Nina, your social worker, she's going to come hang out with you, " I say to her. "Oh, okay," " What, you don't like her?" I ask. "No, I do, she's pretty badass. But you wouldn't be calling her unless it was bad news about my foster mom. She always gets called in when it's bad news," she says. " Well, that's not the whole reason I called her. She has to know what's going on, right? Plus my son is on her caseload, so I had to call her to tell her about him being discharged, too," I tell her. "You have a son?" "Yeah, maybe in a while you can meet him. He's with my partner upstairs right now," I say. "Cool," "Ok, I am going to go check on a few things and I'll be back later, okay?" "Okay,"

A while later

I went up to Rick's room and saw he was asleep but Azrah was wide awake. I picked him up and then scribbled a note on a piece of paper for Rick and texted his phone the same note. I then went back to the ER, sat in a chair behind the nurse's desk, and filled out a few more charts. I then got a page to Brianna's room, so I got up with Az and went to the pediatrics floor. "You paged me?" I ask. "Are there any updates on my mom?" "No, not yet," I saw walking into the room and sitting on the recliner with Azrah. "Who's that?" "This is Azrah," "He's cute," "Would you like to hold him?" "Can I?" "Yeah, I'll let you," I say, standing up and placing Az in her arms. I then say my favorite book on the table. "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, I love this book. So, what part are you at?" I ask. "I'm not at a part, " Brianna says. "You just started reading it, nice," "No, I've read it before, like a lot. It's pretty much my favorite book, " She says. "It's pretty much my favorite book, " I say pointing to myself. "I know what you're doing. Trying to distract me til Nina gets here, you don't have to," she tells me. " What if I want to, ever think of that Miss. Smarty Pants , plus isn't Azrah a big enough distraction?" I ask her. "Yeah, I guess so," She says, smiling a little. " So, let's talk about it. First off, Edmund, I bet you like him the least, right? " I told her. "Don't get me started," Brianna says.
