The holiday season in Seattle, and Joe's acceptance that Althea can and will decorate the bar to her liking, meant she spent half of her shift putting up a Christmas tree and the other half serving alcoholic drinks and waiting on tables. She was playing the holiday mix she made just for the bar—a few holiday songs mixed in with more "bar appropriate" music that they usually played in the bar to appease customers who didn't want to hear holiday tunes.

Now, all that she needed was to get on that pesky star on the damn tree...

The fact that it was almost Christmas time meant that it's almost now been six months. Six months since her mother passed away, six months since she started working at Joe's six months since she left Station 54. Six damn months.

And now she was a bartender for surgeons, paramedics, firefighters, and any other bar goer alike. She stood on her tippiest of toes even while on a stepladder, trying to get the star to rest against the top of the tree, when it was taken from her hands and placed almost perfectly and with ease.

She squinted her eyes at the culprit in annoyance.

"Stupid tall people," she grumbled as she got off of the step ladder.

"Normal people would say, 'Thank you,'" Mark Sloan said, flashing her his best charming smile.

She just grumbled at him and rolled her eyes, taking the step ladder with her to the back of the bar counter. Mark followed, sitting down in one of the stools and not even needing to order before Althea placed a drink in front of him.

"I'm an asshole," Mark sighed, looking at her with puppy dog eyes now.

The bartender rose both eyebrows at him just slightly in curiosity, waiting for whatever it was Mark Sloan needed to confess to her for doing tonight.

"I bribed a nurse so I could trick Lexie into coming here tonight," he said guiltily, like a little kid who was telling their mother about why they got in trouble at school.

"Oh?" Althea replied. "And she's coming?"

"Yeah..." he sighed, but Althea knew that he didn't really feel much remorse about it. He was getting what he wanted, which was a night spending time with Lexie.

"Mark... if you love someone, tell them," Althea said with a sigh, shaking her head as she went on a little speech, giving him her best bartender therapist advice, "even if you're scared it's not the right thing, even if you're scared it'll cause problems, even if you're scared it'll burn your life to the ground..."

"Even if it'll burn her life to the ground?" was Mark's response, the hesitation and the puppy dog eyes still clear on his face.

"I think her life can take it," Althea said back.
