It had come as a huge shock when a mass of black ink had seeped out of his hand and onto the table beside his bed. Felix also seemed surprised when the ink didn't then drip down through the cracks of the old wood. Two pinpricks of vibrant purple light popped into existence on the weird form. They resembled eyes with they way they seemed to look at felix and almost as if blinking, they vanished and reappeared in the same spot. "I am the voice in your head" It said. The boy yelled in panic, tumbling backwards and smashing his arm on the bed. "just... your imagination" he breathed, never taking his eyes off the strange entity. "I offered you power beyond your wildest dreams. You agreed to give me a chance." Felix didn't trust it one bit. Moments passed. The purple sources of light stared into him continually, unnervingly. Finally, Felix admitted to himself that it was the inky thing on the table that was communicating with him. The thing hadn't left his hand and Felix tried to pull it off. It felt soft like a bag full of water, but very solid. The more Felix tried to remove the inky substance, the harder it became. He sensed bemusement from it but he continued to try. "I cannot leave contact with you in any way." It finally said. Looks like felix was stuck with the weird, ink-like being that claimed to be a voice in his head. That was a week ago. Felix still had a hard time comprehending what the thing was and how it even existed. It called itself KeruA, an Inkling. Usually, it stayed as a voice inside his head, but Felix could sense its presence and as far as he knew, it was always conscious, even when he wasnt. It manifested itself as a substance more solid than liquid, but far too fluid to be solid. Always, it had purple eyes and an inky black sheen. Since bonding with KeruA, Felix felt- and obviously seemed- different. For a start, he realised what being Dishonest meant. It scared him that a single lapse could kill him and his remaining family. Not a day passed where KeruA wouldn't help him in some way and for that, Felix was grateful. KeruA protected him from the chill and helped him work harder to support his mother and sister. He sat in the main room one morning, repairing Emily's old clothes. His sister's clothing had become too small and so with the fabric Tess had given him months ago, he sewed it to fit Emily again. The silver needle drove into his finger without warning. Felix flinched, sucking in a small gasp of pain. His hand flooded momentarily with ink, KeruA's mass draining away as quickly as it had come in swirling lines. The pain in his finger vanished immediately and Felix smiled. "I can't heal you." KeruA warned. But felix's hand was completely fine, he had no idea what KeruA was talking about. "I can help you heal faster by replacing flesh until you heal naturally. Something like a pinprick is so small, you healed it yourself- I just blocked the pain for you."
"What else can you do?" Felix asked, genuinely intrigued now. KeruA extended itself from Felix, becoming finer than a gossamer strand and drifting away from his hand in an invisible breeze. Suddenly, a multitude of new senses overwhelmed his own. Slight vibrations in the air felt dizzying, every sound like a thunderclap. Felix forced himself back into his own head, the single thread of inkling coming into focus again. "Woah..." He was awestruck. Having an inkling definitely had its benefits.
